5 Minute Fish Talk Episode 2
I have owned 2 boats and 2 fishing kayaks in my life. I thought this would be an interesting topic for people trying to decide between a fishing kayak and a Jon Boat. While they may seem very different, they are pretty similar in price range and the waters which you can fish so I thought it would be a good comparison video. Let me know what you think!

I hope you enjoy 5 Minute Fish Talk! Have an idea for an episode? Comment below! If I choose your subject, I will feature you in the video where I chat about it.

How about a small Jon Boat that will fit in or on my 1991 Colony Park Wagon? Is there such a thing (6 or 7 feet long)?

My first boat ever is a 2019 Alumacraft 12' Jon Boat. Then I needed a trailer so I got a Harbor Freight cheepo that I put pressure treated plywood and carpet on. Then I needed a trolling motor, then I decided that was way to slow so I got a 6hp outboard Mercury. Then I put swivel seat bases and seats in it, a Bimini top modified to fit the 36" wide hull, Walmart cupholders and industrial double back tape... Then I needed the safety gear required... All in all counting everything the Jon Boat cost $3, 500 give or take for everything, but it's all new with warranties and it was a fun project! My Lifetime Cruze sit in Kayak was $213 with tax and came with the paddle, yeeah that's pretty much all it needed besides a pfd and a sun hat and you are good to go. Joking aside I love both of them to death!

i hate siting in a kayak trying to fish ...i have done it but sitting in a swivel chair is Way better Jon boats are not very stable unless you get at least a 14 footer and above My vote is the build an old style wooden Garvey Much more stable than a Jon

got a Classic Accessories Colorado XT inflatable pontoon.... my girlfriend and I both own one and it's awesome. Threw the oars away and put a trolling motor on... just sweet

Great video and I think you should talk about spawn season and how to catch them off beds

You should try out fishing out of a float tube. They are amazing on small ponds and it allows you to hit the angles. It will blow your mind how much more fish you can catch. Where as with a kayak or John boat you're fumbling with stuff most the time

I don't know if you have done it but I would love to learn how to fly fish. Everything from seting up the poles to the fishing.

I have a kayak and a boat. The longer I keep the boat, the closer I get to getting a divorce. It is just expensive to maintain.

One thing I don't think you considered was the cheaper plastic 2-man "jon-boat" type boats like the Sun Dolphin pro 120. Can easily slap an electric trolling motor, or use a paddle, and that option for a 2nd person is always there.

The biggest issue I have is storage, and getting it to/from the lake. a Kayak can easily be slapped in the bed of my truck or on my wifes car even, and I can launch it pretty much anywhere there's shoreline good enough to walk up to. with a bigger jon boat, not so much. probably need a trailer unless its smaller and can fit in the bed of my truck, and probably not gunna be able to 1-man lift it in/out of the truck and in/out of the water...

That being said, I'm not a fan of the sitting position and how low to the water it is in a Kayak. I like being able to stand, and sit in a more normal chair sitting position as my situation needs..

Edit: Also, what about 10ft "pontoon" style boats? like a Pelican 10E?

Kayak I think is what I'll go with then. Easier to move, and when I don't have my truck I won't be able to move a Jon boat without a trailer. Don't want a boating license right now which is why whatever Jon boat I get would be paddles. Just can't bring my friends without a kayak or canoe lol.

I tend to prefer the caddis navigator float tube, I like the feel of water between my legs

Plastic and aluminum boats can hit logs, fiberglass boats can't

I've seen these fishing paddle boats at Academy sports here in Florida. Do you think it's just as good as a kayak? Planning on getting a kayak right now, but if a paddle boat is better and can hold three people that good also.

Jon boat all the way. Still take them to the river, and lake.
