Jon Boats Vs Kayaks!! Which is Better??

Kayaks have changed a lot over the years and Jon boats have remained pretty much the same. The motors, accessories, and gear for both have both changed a lot. Both of these vessels seem to have their place, but which one is better?

Jon boats have been around for 70 years my friend. They were THE freshwater fishing boat for us working guys, young dads with kids and people who aren't out to impress anyone with a 300 hp "Bass boat".

Man I have gone around this mountain for over 10 years...maybe 15 eith the first SOT fishing kayaks from the old forum days. Been in canoes for 5 decades...never without a canoe, but that's different.

I recently bought a 12ft Jon boat, merc 5hp, and trailer set up...all almost new. Except for the speed (disappointment for me is 11.5 -12 mph top speed)...except for the speed, I do like the jon boat better than any SIK or SOT I've been in.

I'm as curious as anyone about the motor yaks...and then there is the peddle idea but I think I may as well paddle...

By the time I get close to 4k though... that's silly to me since I can get an old bass boat for that and be done.

I think more than anything I'll try to find a way to trade my way into a 14 ft/ 9.9hp jon soon. Maybe. Lol. Thanks for the vid. I subbed.

So is it safe to say you'd take the jon boat over your old Nucanoe F12? I'm currently trying to decide between a Lowe 1240 and F12 for me and my 5 year old son. Hoping to still haul either in my full size truck bed.

I feel like you could put a deck in your Jon boat and it would fish better than any kayak. Plus they make wheeled carts that would allow you to launch your Jo boat almost any where.

100% in the same boat. This was on my que of videos to make this year. Haha.

I don’t understand trailering these massive kayaks around, or the money people are spending on them.

Never had a boat always used a kayak but I’ll give my 2 cents. I fish a shallow river and there are many spots boats can’t get to. If you have a boat, it needs to be a flat bottom and you need a jet if you want to fish more area unless there is a heavy rain. If it gets too shallow on my kayak I get out and drag it, I don’t think it would be as easy to drag a small Jon boat as it is a kayak.

I have a 12' sea king with a 5HP outboard motor on it . I load it in the back of my truck with motor . I had a pro 14 kayak and it's about the same when loading in my truck, I use ramps and a rope Polly . So I don't need a trailer .

Post COVID the prices on Jon boats have doubled. 14’ boats now are starting at 3k before trailer, motor, electronics.

Im in a tough spot.... Have the lure 11.5. High back chair. After 2 hours my lower back kills me. So think "n bout going to a Jon boat. However like u said.... Aimt nothing like catching a big fish from a kayak.

Good video. I have a kayak and I'm looking at getting a Jon Boat. I think you left out a HUGE comparison point though, which is the reason I'm getting a Jon Boat.

Jon boats can take another person on them. So with a Jon Boat you can fish with you kid, friend, etc. Can't do that on a kayak.

Yeah thts the reason I got a kayak.jus sits in bed of my truck.. if ya hve to trailer ur yak.. I'd jus get a boat

Bass boat or Expensive kayak is why I'm here. Think I'll just keep my $300 manual paddle kayak for small bodies and get a bass boat for $167 a month.

you should try a bigger outboard on the Jonny. i have a 4 hp on mine and my buddy has a 6 hp. it is a ton more fun even if you aren't fishing!

Only reason i have a kayak also is to fish creeks and barkcamp lake where its electric only.

I love both but am practical with applications. I bring my boat when I have company but also have other kayaks for those wanting to try.

Also weird but in rough seas, I would rather have a kayak. Much easier to flip back over.

The big difference you missed. The is the cost to register a job boat with motor. Kayaks never cost a yearly fee
