Hey guys! Today we're going for a quick drive in this RHD 2005 BMW 118i 5-door hatchback, freshly imported from Japan. Originally never sold in North America, this 118i is now legal to import into Canada and although it's not the most exciting trim of the first generation 1-series, it is still a very practical, lightweight, and rear wheel drive hatchback with great driving dynamics. Stay until the end of the video for a few of the most exciting imports that will be legal for Canadians beginning January 2021!! Enjoy :D - Marcus

Really love this review of the "normal" 1st gen 1 Series. Here in Europe, Germany 116/118 i/d are very common, like VW Golfs

It's so weird seeing my daily on YouTube. I got the 118d, so 2 liter turbodiesel with 122hp and about 300Nm.
407.000km, a real trooper.

Very strange they kept them out of your market 🤔 super common and cheap here in South Africa

Mental to see how rare you think they are, they’re so common in the UK (maybe where that one’s from given that it’s RHD)

Pre-facelift 130i with the N52 engine was deemed as one of the best driving BMWs of all time back in the day. A manual three-door hatch is actually the rarest E8x 1 Series, including the 1 Series M Coupe.

This little car goes to show that you do not need massive power or luxury car to enjoy a good backroad.

Interesting to see you review a car which is so common here in the Netherlands (EU) 😁
Surprising it is interesting to take the effort of importing this all the way from Japan.

Would I be able to import my 118d from South Korea to the States? I wonder if the US's policies are different from CA's ...

318ti was the first bmw hatch back in north america in the 90s. the Z3 also had a hatchback. both these predate this car.
