I was lucky to have owned one of the first 200 E30 M3's hand built at Garmish. It had been slightly modified and did not have the normal rev limiter. Was the best car I have ever owned. The steering was amazing and was so precise. You could keep the back end out and control it with one hand and the throttle. It was also totally reliable as long as you serviced it. The biggest issues I had were errors from BMW dealers in the Uk who did not know how to work on it. After I sold mine it was featured on the Discovery Channel tv series "Top Marques". How I wish I had it now.

Sold my "Cecotto" in the early 00's. Not as fast as a couple of Cosworths I owned prior to it but by God it drove well and felt so well put together.
A great looking car and handling to boot. Such simple basic German engineering at it's best...

You'll never make them like these again. A lightweight, no-bullshit, epic feeling sports car. Not only is the M4 not a successor, but the M2 isn't either. 1600 kilos of computers and I'm sure it'll be great and all but no.

This car is THE legend, not A legend.

The ONLY BMW M3 that derserves that title is the first M3, period! The perfect car! If humanity should exist in a thousand years, which I personally doubt, the term "car" will best be understood by showcasing footage of an E30 M3 on track.

The eternal car.

Awesome!

The E30, E36 and E46 M3s will forever remain iconic motors that appreciate in value the older they get for well looked after examples. Truly the last of the in-line ///M powerplants, the E46 especially as it's the most raciest and at its limit. The E36 is already seeing this appreciation, the E46 has another 10 years to go I'd say. Not that I'm looking for a return on my 2005 E46 M3 as I want to simply keep it forever, but I fully enjoy maintaining it to the standard that many would consider near showroom (and in some cases even better).

I love my M3 to bits. There are a lot of great cars out there, but lack the magic...

I was based in Germany and was lucky enough to have one of the first 200 that were handmade in Garmish. It was 2 years old when I got it and very low mileage. It was owned by somebody in BMW and had had one or two things done to it. It had no reve limiter for one thing. That cam in very handy when racing and beating Brabus 3.6 Mercs.
I had the car for several years driving all over Europe and the UK and it never missed a beat. They were rare in the UK though which lead to some interesting moments at BMW dealerships. I was on the way back from France when I encountered what turned outto be a contaminated fuel issue. I did not know that at the time and stopped at a Frank Syntner BMW dealership. The mechanics there plugged in the computer and told me my computer was dead and I would need to pay thousands for a new one. That was until I pointed out that the M3 did not have a plug in computer and that the connector was basically a blank. Ver embarrased BMW mechanics. Another time I picked it up after it was serviced and drove away. About 5 miles later there was a very loud bang and the engine started running on 3 cylinders. I pulled over to the side of the road fearing the worse. On lifting up the bonnet I found that I only had 3 spark plugs fitted, the other one was the loud bang I heard as it blew out and hit the underside of the bonnet. Turns out they had not tightened the spark plugs sufficiently after the service!!
In the end I sold it to help finance a business. I sold it to a BMW fanatic near London and my very car later appeared on Discovery channels top marques program. Best car I have ever owned.

I drove it my dad's. Gotta say it's really the origin of M gen! This is where the legend created! There is one thing something i felt that modern bmw wont have...the lightweight, the hard stiff steering. sadly it was sold
