I hope every first year cs student sees this. Take as much time as you need, its not a race. I absolutely ruined my college experience and took away much less than I should have by overloading myself every semester.

The overload of classes isn’t a computer science problem it’s a problem with the school system as a whole but at least you are emphatic in the fact as to why students go down this route

I definitely agree I have been working on my degree for almost 8 years now. A lot happened along the way that has made it difficult. I was working full time nights when my wife was working days after we had our first child. Lucky for me my wife finished her Master degree and is now making enough for me to stay home with our daughter and focus on school. I could have cheated to get farther in my degree or possibly finished but I want to learn the material.

I always have a bad habit of overloading myself with work. I think I'm much more productive and efficient than I actually am lol. I can't be the only one. Right??

I regret focusing more on getting good grades as opposed to getting work experience/ internships. For any of you who are still in college, I recommend you put more effort in getting experience you can put onto a resume rather than spending all your time on a class to get an A. Once you graduate that A doesn't even matter but the experience will

Facts. I’m taking 4 classes (two writing intensives) while working full time. BURNT OUT. I’m lucky enough my boss allows me to take class during working hours 🙏🏽

when I got my first AA (i graduated in 2013) I finished it from jail via work release and it was really the best move. Not saying anyone should commit crime but I had housing and food handled along with excess amounts of time on my hands. When I got my 2nd Associates in Computer Information Systems I had to work full time and it was torturous. Now I am going back for a BS in Computer Science and working 50-60 hours a week, with balancing a relationship, coaching a muay thai team, and trying to take care of myself. I am probably going to take 1 - 2 courses per quarter/semester because its all i can afford financially and time wise. Keep making the content I love it.

Funny how my college professors of same department can't even coordinate with each others and which results in everyone pushing too much pressure on each student!!

I’ve been in uni for 6 years now, and I’ve still got three years of cs to go before I get my bachelors, lol. Taking fewer classes if at all possible is my recommendation. I’ve worked part time as a server for the entirety of my post-secondary education, so I learned that three classes is my sweet spot to still be able to learn the material and do well, while still working enough to survive. I only had one semester where I worked 2-3 evenings per week, was on the board of a school club, and took 5 classes, and it was hellish. 10/10 do not recommend unless you really want to. I got all my breadth requirements finished years ago, so now I can just take my actual cs requirements, which still works out to three classes a semester. I would definitely recommend to all new students that you start your first year with three classes each semester, just to adjust yourself to the new way of work, and also to not get in over your head! It will take longer, but I think it’s worth it. (I’m in Canada, so tuition at my school is around $4000 for the year with three classes in winter and spring semesters, so I currently have no school debt either, since I worked at the same time and full time in summer)

I took the hardest classes in summer—you can concentrate on it more, and the summer versions are a bit slower, more fun, for us it was 1 3-hour class a week, rather than 3 days a week

I have just been taking 2 - 3 classes a semester but do summer too. I've been getting all A's that way.

I completely agree with u, but what can someone do when u have a scholarship, and the school requires u to finish ur degree in 4 years.!
Not mention if u have to work bc u need some extra cash to keep living properly!

I've been debating taking on more classes next semester, and honestly I'm glad I came across this video now to talk me down from the ledge.

For some reason your videos, your humble opinions, and your soft spoken nature really makes me feel more comfortable with not having gone to college right out of high school. I think I'm going to look back into college and take life at my own pace, and focus on learning rather than racing to the finish.

Thanks for the great content you put out 😃

I agree. Overloading yourself is not good.

Btw, you are a huge inspiration! Keep up the good work!

watched this just now and this kinda opened my eyes to yeah I really didn't learn well while trying to rush through certain classes by just hitting up a website and trying to make something quick to turn into the professor.

Absolutely loving your vids lately. It’s like you’re having a conversation with your viewers over the course of several days.

I agree with almost everything you said here only push back would be on the number of hours should take vs have to take. Many folks who are using financial aid have to be "full time" in order to receive financial aid for school so it wouldn't be possible for them to take 9hrs in the full semester and 6 in a mini only because they NEED to be full time. I agree with the point it would give them much more time to focus on the content and learning over just trying to fight to get the grade and on top of working full time. Students these days actually are taking 18-21 hrs a semester and working full time because financial aid will pay tuition but they still have to pay for their apt, food, ect.
