Ballpoint pen ink is made of grease and fat, which limits the dyes and/or pigments it can hold. It also tends to be duller than ink used in rollerball, gel, or fountain pens. That’s why ballpoints tend not to be known for vibrant colors.

back in the 90s, at least here in Italy, there was a 10 colors ballpoint pen.
it was so chunky that it was rather uncomfortable to use, but each color smelled like a different fruit.
along the very first posca markers, it was an absolute must have.


if I remember well, my first one was a mitama (but the mechanics were a bit on the shabby side compared with other mitama products of the same period), and I've also had a few ripoffs from a local brand.
... I'm pretty sure that I've seen one in a stationary store not too long ago, and I probably still have a semi-functioning one somewhere

This used to be the best and most fun pen in my childhood...even though I never knew I can do such amazing things with it...we just used to make ugly but colourful flowers ...you made me want to buy it again 😩
