After trying so many alternatives for a couple decades, I’ve been using the Velcro ties for the last decade, and it’s all I need. I’ve also started installing them intentionally “backward”, with the velvet side facing out, otherwise other fabrics in my bag or dust on the floor will tend to cling to it. For small cables, I trim about half the length off, enough to make just two complete wraps around the cable I’m attaching it to, otherwise it gets annoying to rewrap.
