Researchers in England say a clinical trial shows dexamethasone, a widely available steroid, can reduce the number of deaths in severe cases of coronavirus by up to one third. My late wife was on dexamethasone, also known as decadron, for 18 months while battling gliosarcoma brain cancer. It was used to control the edema in her brain in order to decrease the inter-cranial pressure. It was very effective in that role. Long term use has nasty side effects though.
