'Major breakthrough' as UK scientists find cheap steroid cuts COVID-19 deaths

Scientists in the UK have discovered a cheap and available treatment for COVID-19 patients.

They have described the use of a common steroid drug as a "major breakthrough".

The drug dexamethasone reduced death rates by a third for patients on ventilators and by a fifth for patients needing oxygen.

The numbers do not correspond to what she reported. She said that 1 death is avoided for every 8 patients on ventilators, but the headline says it's a 33% reduction. What am I missing? Did she forget to say that 3 deaths are expeted for every 8 on ventilators, so 1 in 3 deaths are avoided??? I'm confused by what was said.

This was used during other SARS and MERS outbreaks in the past, the UK have been stockpiling Dexamethasone for the last 2 months under the suspicion that it would help, and now after the trial they have approved it for use. Although it should be taken with a grain of salt as the trial has not yet been published and peer reviewed, for all we know the study wasn't conducted correctly and/or there is fishy data. Once its been peer-reviewed by a respectable journal and by trusted scientists in their field, THEN we can have some certainty of its effectiveness. Until then, no other country outside the UK wants to use it, since the claims are as yet unproven.

Are these statistics correct?
One third (33.3%) on ventilators survive and then it is stated as 1 in 8 which is 12.5%!!!!.
One fifth (20.%) on oxygen survive and hen it is stated s 1 in 25 (4.%)!!
Or have I missed something?
