First customer thought that dishwasher at the backwas an immigrant when asking for " Pedro"( Spanish name) . The shocked expression on his face and change in his manners and tone when he saw an American and that too asking him for weed, lol.

You do not wanna fuck with dishwashers. They can be the coolest dudes as long as you stay in their lanes, but the moment you piss them off, you get a hands-on lesson on why they spent eight months in county 🤣

Yes, servers do get paid OT. Where I work, we are open until 10pm and we would still seat someone at 9:55. I tell the guests I have to get their order in right away, but I never rush them out. When I close, I'm almost always there until 11pm-ish so one more table is really no big deal. A lot of times, the customers are really grateful, leave a decent tip and don't linger.

I have asked for very loud music to be turned down a notch. No problem. And recently I was in a restaurant we frequent often. It is a sports-y restaurant and all the TVs have sports on. The TV nearest me had boxing. There is absolutely no way I can eat a meal with boxing in my view. I looked around to see if I could find a person watching the TV. I could not. I asked if it could be turned to ANYTHING other than boxing. I don't care if it's a replay hockey game from 1966, poker, fishing, golf, whatever. Just PLEASE, not boxing. Server said OK and got it changed to some talking-heads football discussion, which was perfectly fine. AITA? No need to answer.

I do have an issue with the hours of service time. It should be explicit that the last order will be taken at a certain time. I have worked with the public and the public can be incredibly dense.

I applied for a dishwasher job. I am a generic white female. Rather plain looking I guess is fair to say. When the manager came to talk to me he said he needed to explain why he couldn’t hire me. He said they had tried to place a non Hispanic person or two in that position but they always ended up quitting. The crew that was there only spoke Spanish while working even though they could speak English very well. They made every shift miserable for the new person. For a minute I thought about taking the challenge but decided it didn’t pay enough to put that much effort into it. Still wish I had given it a try sometimes though.

To be fair, when the music level is louder than you can hear your meal partner's voice across the table, I'll ask to turn it down, and every place that happens does because I ask nicely.

You're out to have a meal and the pleasure of conversation with company. If I wanted to listen to music, I'd put my earbuds in.
