"compare yourself to yourself" this is brilliant advice for every kind of photographer

Ah, the slow dawning realisation that you are starting to get older!😀 The real sad thing is when you wake up in the morning in your sixties and can't get it out of your head that only two weeks ago you were in your 30's! At least that's what it seems like - you can't explain to a younger person just how fast their lives will go by but you can tell them to enjoy as much of it as they possibly can. You can't stop the passing of time but you CAN minimise regret and that should be your inspiration.👍

Oh those summertime blues, I know them well 😂. I think one of the greatest lessons we learn is realising just because a scene is beautiful, it’s not necessarily photogenic. The problem is we are always trying to go beyond a simple photograph and the better we get, the harder that becomes. Hope the foot gets better soon matey 👍

‘Comparison is the thief of joy’..Theodore Roosevelt...photograph for yourself and don’t be too critical of your own work..loving the studio 😁👍🏼

This is probably the best video ive seen of yours. Showed a genuine side of you and shows we have the same issues. Very relatable. Keep doing you. You're an amazing photographer. Heal up soon I wish nothing but the best Henry

You make a lot of good points and you make them well.

Sorry to see you laid up, as we get older we are more prone to these types of injuries ! I can relate to all your points and glad to see its something that a lot of us seem to have issues with some or all your points. Great watch!

As a landscape photographer, I have a spot that is close to home where I return to time and time again to test out new gear and techniques. I think every photographer has such a spot, even though they may not realize it.

I mention this because when I am not 100%, this is where I go to shoot sunsets and sunrises. Sometimes you get great shots of the sky with the sun at your back!

So relatable, these issues! My method is to do landscape photography mainly on long-distance hiking trips. Just me and my camera out in nature for 1 or 2 or even 3 weeks, no expectations or planned shoots because you obviously can't really plan it all. Just shoot what you come across, what interests you, in whatever the conditions happen to be at the moment. I always return with at least a dozen photos I'm really happy with.

Love your honesty. I dont go out all the time and have learned that you dont have to. If you havent got the right frame of mind it wont work. I also write short stories and have long barren periods where i cant write a thing.

I feel your pain. I broke my leg on Tryfan 9 weeks ago. You don't realise how much you miss the outdoors until it's taken away from you. On Instagram I've had to stop following some good photographers, because they are all going to Iceland or the Faroe Islands. As beautiful as the images are I'm unlikely to spend that kind of money to go there and it starts to feel that you can only get good images if you go these 'stunning' places. I'm finding better inspiration from those photographers who are shooting in places that I can actually get to!

patience, persistence and inspiration are the greatest tools for this genre. Personally i have come home empty handed more than a handful of times, it sucks but every time you do you learn and gain certain instincts that will only better you in future endeavors. social media is only a learning tool treat it any other way and you will be crying in your pillow at night thinking you'll never be that good but guess what that person started at the bottom as well. keep up the hard work nice vlog but get out of the car lol

All very true points Henry, I got a bit obsessed last year and thought I had to spend every spare moment out with my camera. I spend much more time now looking for inspiration and thinking about what I want to capture next time rather than going out aimlessly. I enjoy just being out more now and not constantly thinking I must go home with a photograph.
On the foot subject 🦶, have a look at some decent insoles, Superfeet are awesome, have the Greens in my walking boots and Carbons in my trainers. Really help stabilise your feet and prevent injuries.

Henry,
How do you know me?
You were talking about me the entire video.
Super awesome points, enjoyed it.
Thanks.

I know what injury can do to curtail the landscape photography outings. I have a chronic back problem that inhibits me at time from lugging my camera bag out into the field. I hope your foot heals quickly and you can get back out there! Cheers!

Hi Henry, hope the foot recovers soon. Instead of mistake, I prefer fail then break the word fail down. So first attempt in learning. Cause we are always learning with photography and life in general. Thanks for the inspiration.

Absolutely class advice! I always wanted to upgrade everything...I want the best of everything and for what? to compare myself to someone who does photography full time. I have taken so much inspiration from your videos but i need to ask....where did the confidence come from to do youtube? i have been tempted but always talk myself out of it lol.
