Vamba Sherif, born in Liberia, is a novelist, journalist and film critic. He's lived in Kuwait and Syria before settling in The Netherlands.

I belong to me which translates to I belong nowhere yet I belong everywhere. To tie belonging to a place or to a community or to family, friends or other connections are so limiting because they change all the time.

I have thought a lot about what it means to feel at home. I grew up in a different town in America, and there are some regional differences. But this was the hometown of my parents, so there was some familiarity with it, and culturally I match this place more than I did my own hometown. So what really determines feeling at "home" or belonging?

Home is where you are born and raised in my opinion, Homeland is country you are from for me it is Ireland. But my home is Mullingar, County Westmeath even though I live in Dublin now.
