Star alignments don't affect people's behavior, but using Twitter too often does

Trying to tell me that the stars decide our personality is like trying to tell me the world is flat.

I had a friend who would put me down because of my “birth chart”
Saying nasty things like “that’s probably why people don’t like to be around you” always talking about my “Virgo moon” whatever that means.

A lot of comments keep saying he hasn't debunked astrology, but he did. astronomy was heavily misunderstood when astrology was created which is what he mentions. How can you claim the constellations and planets impact us when your entire perception of the planets are inaccurate, The stars you see at night aren't there anymore, the constellations you see Don't appear the same from different angles of the planets, and Astrology was created when mankind thought there were only like 4 planets

I remember this about astrology.
My teacher said that every trait each horoscope has could apply to anybody. It's not specific into a certain category.
And I wonder why that happened. And then my lecturer said back then when she had to work on a magazine, she was in a rush for a deadline to write all of those traits. So it all makes sense now

I’m just going to think of astrology as choosing your favorite superhero. It’s for fun and it means nothing

Too be fair, he didn’t really explain why astrology is wrong. He just said that people thought they were in the center of the universe.

I need a good way to debunk astrology because my best friend is lost in the sauce.

When he says they don't have any effect on us "at all", i think that might be a bit controversial logically because the stars have atleast the smallest of the smallest magnitude of gravitation force associated with us, GMm/d² cannot be zero.

So even though astrology is bs, one shouldn't say the stars have no associations with us in terms of physics.

People believe in astrology just as much as kids believe in Santa Claus or the tooth fairy

Neil's chart shows he would deny astrology. 😁

I wouldn't say he disproved astrology, in order to disprove/prove something you need a good hypothesis, e.g. "Astrology does not have a significant impact on personality traits and life outcomes."

With that you can organize an experiment, with this specific experiment you would want to gather a large amount of data "from various different persons" about there (date of birth, social life, job, ect).

After data collection you can compare it all to see if there is any correlation between zodiac sign and life status/personality. (For this hypothesis) if there is a strong correlation then the hypothesis would be proven false.

You can use this to prove/disprove nearly everything. This is a part of the "scientific method". I have merely written an example of an experiment, so don't criticize it too much. If you want to run your own experiment, first do research on how to structure it best.

It would of course be painful too run an experiment on everything,
so what Neil did was provide a very facts based "theory" on why there is no reason to attempt to "predict the future" based on the location of starts.

There's a quote that says, "Millionaires don't use astrology, billionaires do."

Thanks but who needs four minutes? It only takes seconds to say: "There is no basis for this nonsense whatsoever. Give your heads a wobble"

I think it's safe to assume that people who believe in horoscopes are not highly educated.

Somebody read this man's birth chart.

But the fact that people with the same star sign are always at least 95% alike doesn't tell you something?

Firstly and respectfully - it is important to remember that he is a man of science. Therefore there is no need to debate what he says. Modern-day science has in itself become the modern-day religion. Decades or centuries ago, one would go to a priest, oracle, shaman, healer, etc. to seek answers and in those times it was sociably acceptable and belief was a by-product. Today the same is pretty much true for science in the majority of cases. For anything that does fit within the logic of a human being's 5 senses, it becomes irrational, even if it is just the mere alluding to the subject matter itself - if it does not make sense. However, I am pretty sure this is how most people felt about the theory of gravity sometime ago until it was translated into modern science. So it's fair to say that beyond "new" discoveries, modern science just hangs around often waiting to translate many irrational occurrences into logical ones and then put it under the banner of "scientists have confirmed" which now suddenly makes it okay for people to talk about it and not sound crazy.

There are 100, 000 so-called "discoveries" that modern science has only come to confirm at this point in time yet they have existed in ancient cultures for 100, 000s of years but were first laughed off by the scientific community and this is simply because of a strong belief that what we know as the "intellect" is the strongest and most accurate apparatus in the decision-making process and this is what scientists of all fields rely on. Through 1000"s of trials and testing, coupled with theories and equations they follow this set of tools in a dogma-like fashion (sounds familiar)

However, the 5 senses will only take you to a certain point and so will the most brilliant minds in the world. Beyond that is an infinite well of consciousness that in most are not tapped at all. If you want an example of this, here is one: Is it true that the brain commands the body what to do? Is it true that the brain sends extremely fast signals (thoughts) that we are not even aware of because it's so fast on a subconscious level) to lift your arm or wiggle your fingers or type on your keyboard? The answer is YES. How do we know this? Because Modern Science has confirmed this, they have the full script from beginning to end pointing out what happens from the mind to the point of movement in the fingers. Now let's take that just one inch away from the the so-called logic function of this process. If it is the brain that tells the body to do this action, then what is telling the brain to perform this action? And this is exactly the limitation of modern-day science. We need only look at the most recent global pandemic to see exactly how crippled Modern day science ran laps around itself in contradiction. By no means am I saying that science is rubbish, I am simply saying that science does not have all the answers - it is simply a tool but not an answer to every single subject matter and it will never be able to explain everything.
