Quiet Enough for the Bedroom? Fender Tone Master Super Reverb

In this one I want to see how good the attenuator is on the Fender Tone Master Super Reverb. It is really important these days to be able to play pretty quietly - for small gigs and for playing at home. Let's plug in the decibel meter and see what volume this really plays at.

Hey all, happy new year! Let me know what you’d like to know about the original 1959 Les Paul i’ll be playing in a couple of weeks. Cheers!

Think it’s great that you’re demoing this amp based on its own merits - so many videos out there are comparing it to vintage valve amps (which obviously have their place) but few are looking at the amp on its own and talking about how to use it. Great job!

Would love to see your honest reactions around the Les Pauls - and Aynsley’s too! Particularly through the rift…

Really enjoy your videos. Tho I am quite envious of all your beautiful gear, living vicariously thru your videos is well enough for now hehe. Great stuff

Happy New Year James. I play a 5 watt valve amp with pedals and it's more than good enough for my standard of playing. Mind "It's the Indian not the Arrow" that makes great tone.

Happy New Year.
Just treat them vintage guitars like any of your other videos. Just your honest opinion and how they compare to your other LP style guitars.

If found, with my Twin Tone Master, that the 1 watt setting is good at bedroom volume. Almost a bit too loud. Clicking it up one notch is good for playing under breakup, at the same volume. The Tone Master reacts differently when it’s breaking up, to varied sources. For example, I ran 3 different distortion pedals into it at 10 on the amps volume. 1 completely overrides the Reverb & Vibrato, the other sounded as expected & the last one got really muffled sounding. Running them under a breakup volume, they all sounded great. I found a similar thing with my Stratocaster. Positions 1-3-5 on the switch all do well when the amp is breaking up. Pos 2-4 get muffled & weird. The amp is great & I really like it. But, digital processing has its quirks, still.

Of course I am really digging the content - but I wanted to mention how good the lighting and overall video production of your channel is. May I ask what lighting you use?

Great work! Please do a comparison Two Rock vs Fender TM Super Reverb - thank you :)

I'd love to hear how they compare with "worse" guitars in a band setting. These guitars often sound magical when you hear them in a demo. Do they keep up when more instruments are involved? :)

Hi, happy new year to you too James maybe single coils and humbuckers included might have been interesting. 59/57clean amps and mild break up amps most of all your response to the feel the vibe and tones of both

Great video, James. Jumping back and forth between the higher and lower power setting sections, I much preferred the higher ones. It'd be interesting to hear each of them with the EQ adjusted to get the best possible sound you can at each respective attenuator level. Roll on the 50s Les Pauls - can't wait! As you have limited time with them, no need for pedals, just play them through your Two Rocks and the AL Signature. A comparison with your own Les Paul has to be done. I'm sure it'll be hard to remain 100% impartial, given the history you'll have in your hands, but I do look forward to your thoughts.

I wonder how comparatively the Princeton is on the decibel meter. And how it goes up against something like this for a bedroom volume amp.

1 watt is very loud for home playing on a NMV blackpanel amp, if you want breakup tones.

We need to hear the guitars so need the best clean amps. Also playability and feel is really important are they really that good and what makes them so special. Blindfold test with your CS Les Paul?

I'm actually curious to see how loud the tonemaster is compared to the tube variant. I have a 65 RI super reverb(and i'm also hunting out a vintage BF one in the future) and I always blast it at 6 when no one is home. The super is very loud at 6 yes, but surprisingly, I don't find it nearly as unbearable as something like a hot rod which goes from quiet to too much with just a small bump. It's still very usable and tolerable in a large room(key word, large room) at 3 or 4.

For bedroom Yamaha THR or similar. I have been watching attenuation of valve amps for 30 years and it's not possible to obtain a realistic satisfactory sound at bedroom level. Anyone who says 'listen you can hear me talk over what I'm playing may be true but it's too loud. For whatever reason 65 dB of guitar is perceived much louder than someone talking at the same dB.

Well, that's quite enough for room practice without compromising enough tone. Nice work James.

P.s:- Try the Positive Grid Spark please. It is just magical for room practice. Best tones I have ever heard from any practice amp. Almost studio level.
Waiting for your review.

Really enjoy this channel and your content. But are you going to have Aynsley play? That’s a little like inviting Gordon Ramsey over to help you check out your new cutlery.
