She managed to create such a loveable, empathetic character in the midst of all the fucked up stuff going on in this movie. Brilliant.

This scene really captures the emotionality of where Vanessa Lutz is as a human being.  She is a totally messed up kid and she knows it but she also knows she is a human being entitled to dignity.  That is what her character is screaming at the world the entire movie, all people are entitled to human dignity.  At 4:31 it always sends chills up my spine.  This was Reese's best performance of her life!

I've seen quite a few of her movies in my life: Man in the Moon, Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, and Walk the Line to name a few, But I NEVER expected Reese Witherspoon to play a character so vicious and violent. But ironicly that makes me more determined to see the whole movie, because I believe that actors should step out of their comfort zones to show how TRUELY great actors they are, this being one of them. But who knows, maybe we'll see Resse in more femme fatale roles in the future.

One thing I noticed about Freeway and A Few Good Men. Kiefer Sutherlin and Wolfgang Bodison played a major role in both movies, yet you cannot find the two together in any of the scenes from either movie.

Of course at the very beginning of the film when we meet Vanessa she is in the middle of a deep kiss with her Black boyfriend, who she is trying to call here. It adds an interesting level of social complexity to her use of foul language toward Mike the cop and the choice of names she called him.
