How to type checkmark symbol in Excel

How to insert the checkmark symbol in Microsoft Excel

There is two methods for typing the checkmark symbol:

1. Navigate to the insert tab on the toolbar, select symbols and search for the font 'Wingdings', the checkmark symbol will be on the bottom right

2. Alternatively the checkmark symbol can be typed out with a keyboard shortcut by selecting the font 'Wingdings' in the home tab and holding alt + 0252 on the numpad.

There is no check mark in wingdings on MS 365 and no way to inser a single symbol that I can find

This isn't exactly inserting a checkmark. It is more occupying an entire cell. I want to know how to INSERT a checkmark into text in a cell.

Using the wingdings2 font you can insert by typing O for cross, P for tick, Q and R for cross and tick in boxes. Much simpler than above.
