I understand what you are saying about the audience hall design but I do wonder if there was anyone in the Vatican back in the mid 70s, when approving this architect's designs, who said "you know this could be a controversial design because it does look like a serpent" (especially from the inside). I don't know - although it isn't a church, where one worships God, it is just an audience hall.
