The Comic Con revealed a slew of new trailers for Lower Decks, Section 31 and Strange New Worlds as well as more news on brand new series in development, from Starfleet Academy in the 32nd Century to the unnamed resort world comedy. I have thoughts on these trailers so let's look at the lore and take a look.

Its ironic that Lower Decks, a comedy, ended up being the most faithful trek in the new works.

Robert Picardo showing up would make sense - He would have left the museum of Kyrian National Heritage to go back to Earth by then.

3:44 He did have a backup copy that became active 700 years after Voyager (VOY: Living Witness).
So he might only be like 100 years old.

It's my understanding that the footage from the Strange New Worlds episodes comes from one where the crew are injected with Vulcan DNA, and along with giving them physiological changes, also completely rewrites their personalities to be more logical/rational. Wouldn't this be contradicting the fact that Vulcans have to spend decades in meditation and training to acquire such control over their emotions? They do this because without the training, their emotions are extremely heightened, compared to a human's. Shouldn't the case be true with those injected with Vulcan DNA? They don't have the training.

They should not cancel Lower Decks, it's one of the best new shows.

The sitcom could be like Star Trek's Good Place. Start with a fun premise but end up being more about ethics, moral philosophy, and existentialism.

I was not impressed by that SNW clip. Vulcans are not inherently logical, they have strong emotions, and their discipline takes years of learning and training. Without their training, they should be more like Romulans.

Also, no Prodigy? Shame on Paramount.

Comedy based Deep Space 9 set on Risa sounds intriguing if they go more of the Scrubs route, where the have a mixture of levity and serious plots.

Star Trek: Risa, where the episodes revolve around Section 31 honeypotting Romulan senators with Orion Slavegirls and then tying up loose ends by subcontracting out to the crew of Lower Decks to bury the Orion Slavegirl in the mattess, where it is subsequently discovered by the recently graduated Academy class while on their first assignment during STO season 3.

I HATE seeing the Section 31 movie going forward. Section 31 is the Space CIA in the "shit ton of illegal assassinations, anti democratic practices, and overthrowing governments" sense. Section 31 in DS9 was rightfully made the villains. Rehabilitating them is HORRIBLE. Freedom is the MOTHER of security, NOT the daughter.

I never quite got on with Lower Decks but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it, so I'm sad for those people and anyone who is out of a job from it ending.

The one that hurt more for me was the cancellation of Prodigy, as it delivered some of the best Trek storytelling in the modern era in my opinion. It has some very solid one off episodes and a genuinely interesting overarching story, and while it definitely tugged on nostalgia from time to time it never relied on it. Characters had motivations that drove their actions, they changed in response to things that we saw in episodes, it just worked.

A season 3 of the Protostar A crew trying to keep the spirit of the Federation alive as the Federation itself becomes more insular after the Mars attack would have been a really interesting scenario for a crew so driven by the very idea of the Federation.

LD, great, sad to see it go.
SNW, great, tho i do think they're flanderizing Spock/Vulcan in that scene they show off (and making culture a biologic trait isn't a good implication).
Academy, honestly I'm more interested in hopefully exploring that era more than it's concept, tho at the very least that's a strong cast.
Section 31, could be fun but when there's MAJOR shifts, like going from a show to a movie with a switch in writers, in a project like that i do have to worry about it.

unnamed resort show, too vague to really have a opinion but it could be good.

i never thought i would be worried about what would happen in S3 of strange new worlds, then i saw this trailer, and my enthusiasm for the show sank to to bottom of the ocean

Can we explore space with adults? Or is StarTrek just teenager angst episodes or comedy.

The section 31 trailer looks like crap. Just calling a spade a spade and all the thumbs down on this trailer really show that a lot of people concur with the idea this is trash.

The end of SNW will probably not be the enterprise handover. - If they do it right. They'll show the handover. Go past it. Then smack us in the face with "the accident" when we all least expect it.

Guardian [of Forever] clearly states she is not going back to a mirror universe, after she pretty much refuses such an action. I though it was ment that she was just being sent back in Prime [seewhatIdidthereLOL] to an unsaid when that would allow her to be stable... which could just have been early 23rd century...

I can't believe someone looked at the entire back catalogue of Trek; saw such triumphs as Ds9's ''He Who is Without Sin' or ENT's 'Two Days & Two Nights' or TNG's 'Captain's Holiday' and said to themselves "F**k yeah, this aspect of trek is definitely worth exploring more deeply". Who knows... Maybe they will make these awful things amazing. I didn't like the sound of Lower Decks when it was first discussed and it's now my second favourite modern trek after Prodigy. I guess time will tell. I will definitely check out a show on a resort world, and my expectations would be rock bottom... so it might land really well I guess.

The Stange New World epo. appears to be based on comic from late 90's. Where Pike's Enterprise finds one of lost Vulcan colonies from being the Sundering and they are batsh*t insane as one would expect.

I appreciate the franchise showing us the great, but I would love to see how the average person lives in this universe. Let's face it, as much as we love to imagine ourselves being the hero of the stories, most of us would not be the caption of a ship, but more likely working in auxiliary capacities, or just doing our own thing. One of the things I really loved about DS9 was having characters like Leta and Quark who were basically average people in their own worlds. A show about a resort would likely have more average people finding their niche, as the point in this society is that people have the ability to pursue their own dreams. What if your dream is to run a fish shop or to keep people up to date on local social events? And a ticklish point for me, what if you're learning or developmentally disabled? Is there a place for you?

Why does it feel like the suits saw Lower Decks be successful and went "oh well now that Star Trek *comedy* is proven let's make a *REAL* comedy show instead of just some cartoon" and decided to replace a perfectly good animated format with a completely different medium?
