The fact that the friends left him instead of sticking by his side just shows they weren’t really true friends. I get wanting to distance yourself from “toxicity” and all that but when he’s going through something like that avoiding him isn’t gonna help in the slightest

My dad smoked for years. Unfortunately he quit one bad habit for another. Instead of cigarettes he ate lemon drops instead. Gained a ton of weight and diabetes.

Tip: my grandma used to smoke and vape, she managed to help those 'whispers' by vhewing gum instead. It helped her get over the withdrawl too, so if you wanna try it, she used juicyfruit specifically:)

6 years after quitting, I still crave cigarettes every day. At this point, I doubt it will ever go away. I see people smoking, and I'm actually envious of them. But I stopped because I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I left my children early because I developed a terminal health issue from something I could avoid.

My granny quit smoking cold turkey when the doctor told her she had lung cancer & that it was the kind smokers get. She had it surgically removed, quit letting people smoke in her house (she had an oxygen tank qt that point) & was decently good for a few years until she got lung cancer again that they deemed terminal, as she was 70+ years old & had so much chemo, radiation, surgeries, etc over the years (from first lung cancer, the colon cancer years before that, & all the times she fell & broke/fractored bones or otherwise had to be put under for stuff) that they didn't think her body was strong enough to do much more to her :(

Started smoking back in 2002 when I was 17. My childhood best friend passed away our 11th grade year. I averaged a pack a day. Back in 2013, I decided to quit.in the beginning of 2014, I was down to 4 cigarettes a day. Then my grandma died. I went back to a half a pack a day. 2 months later, my oldest brother died. I picked up right where I left off before trying to quit. As for now, I smoke anywhere from a half a pack to a pack a day. I have rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative disc disease so the more I am in pain, the more I smoke. I'm not on anything for the pain, besides the occasional tylenol. I could definitely go to a pain management dr and get hydrocodine pain pills, but I refuse to.

My grandma smoked almost my entire life, idk how much she smoked when she was raising my mom and her siblings but it was definitely a lot. Anytime we’d visit for holidays, she’d step out and smoke. I remember my mom saying that it’s ok if I don’t want to hug her cause she smelled like smoke, still loved her tho. She passed away a couple years ago but thankfully it was in her sleep and peaceful

Been smoking free for 15 years now. Smoking? Hands down the stupidest thing I've ever done to myself. Glad I didn't do something stupider, lol

My dad did this, for the same exact reason to he did it for me. His was very different though, he just bought a brand new pack had only smoked maybe two or three look down at it then looked up at the sky and ask the Lord to help him. He put that pack of smokes, on top of the fridge did not buy another pack I forgot about that one that he put up there. Never smoked again, he passed little over 10 years ago

Congtats, keep it up. It is tough to quit, but you got by the worst. Do not lose what you gained!

Sending this to my dad.
Because he’s an alcoholic and smokes so much that I hate hugging him, yet he forces me to hug him sometimes

I’ve told him I don’t like hugging him because he smells like cigarettes, but he ignores it sometimes

That's not a normal reaction for cold turkey. My father and I both did it. I smoked for IDK about 15 years and my dad for about 40+ years. I would just randomly cry out of nowhere when I was at home every few days. My dad would hack for a few months. Im not sure whether that was from smoking for so long (because he had done it while he was still smoking), or whether it happened because he quit. Possibly both, it seemed like it was worse after he quit, but maybe I just noticed it more. However tasting better is true. After my dad quit smoking I took him to Texas Roadhouse for a nice juicy steak. 😂

I was a pack or more a day smoker for twenty years, never noticed foods tasting different after I quit.
