Thank you so much!!! I had all the cables I needed and yet our IT department couldn't figure this out. It was the menu settings to enable the DP 1.2 that was the missing step. I've had 3 monitors for 6 months with only 2 working as I just didn't have the right settings. I knew it was possible, but with COVID, I've barely been on site to fix. I finally found the right search terms and found your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I used the two DP-to-mDP cables that came with my two Dell U2414H monitors to daisy chain them.
o DP on NVIDIA card > mDP (in) on monitor 1 [with DisplayPort 1.2 Enabled]
o DP out on Monitor 1 > mDP (in) on monitor 2 [with DisplayPort 1.2 Disabled]
Note: DisplayPort v1.4a on NVIDIA card
Initially I had an issue where the computer would not sleep manually or automatically. I fixed it by updating the firmware on the two monitors. Both monitors are revision A01, purchased in 2014. I installed the latest firmware (dated 12 Aug 2015)

Thank you! Your video helped me a lot, even though I did it just a little different.

UPDATE & FIX!! I just got (2) new Dell U2417H monitors (Rev A07, manufactured in June 2018), and I did not have the option in the menu to select Displayport 1.2. Turns out it was pre-configured that way. I discovered this by holding down the 'Tick' button (under Input Source) for several seconds like he does in this video. Then you either get a 'Disable', or an 'Enable' button. This is a toggle setting, so if 'Disable' is highlighted in blue, then it's already set to DP1.2 (and you should leave it as it is), and confirming at this point will disable DP 1.2. If 'Enable' is highlighted, then confirming will enable it. Once I confirmed I was in DP 1.2 mode, the displays were still mirroring each other. To get both screens extended, I went down to "Display" in the menu, and turned on "MST" (which means Multi-Stream Transport). Once enabled on the monitor connected TO the computer, it worked perfectly. I did not enable MST on the daisy-chained monitor. For what it's worth, the monitor connected TO the computer ended up being the right-hand monitor (monitor 2). The daisy-chained monitor defaulted to monitor 1 on my left. Hope this helps somebody out.

Ah! 😄 The missing piece to my puzzle! Thanks man! 👍 Can I buy you a beer or something? You know, people are reporting all kind of crazy solutions to the problem of Windows not detecting their monitors in general, and not detecting Dell monitors specifically. The solutions range from checking the connections and hardware compatibility to messing with the Device Manager, updating drivers and hacking the Windows registry. This video clearly demonstrates that it sometimes helps to RTFM. Note that the same setting is called "MST" on newer monitors, which is more descriptive and appropriate IMO. But frankly, I find it very odd that Dell decided not to enable MST by default. Is it hurtful to let it be enabled by default? This is how any normal person would expect the monitor to operate if they remove that screaming orange plug from the DP Out port and stick a cable in it to hook up another monitor. Who in their right mind would want two, three or even four monitors that display a mirrored image?... and even if they do want that for some reason, it's not like they can't go into the OS specific settings for that and set it up, assuming MST is enabled by default. You would think that all these "developers" and "engineers" today would know better... whatever! Thanks again! 🍻

You are awesome! I was able to understand this after your excellent explanation and solved my issue with needing to set up dual monitors to a docking station that has only one display port. This worked brilliantly! Thanks!

Nice review but didn't show how to configure the monitor for daisy chaining and which DP jack to use for in/out. Where is the enable DP1.2 setting?

Great video. This is called MST in the DISPLAY menu on the UP2516D and similar models. Enable MST on both monitors. Ridiculous Dell doesn't enable this by default.

I've been running 3 u2414's for a couple of years, elite dangerous is great on them! a while back I had the triple screen setup share 2 different pc's, ( r9 290x in one and a gtx670 in the other) switching all 3 screens between them with a single selection on the primary display, not only that the desktop automatically resizes itself correctly if you turn off the extra screen(s) via their power button, sadly unlike the AMD eyefinity setup on the 290x the nvidia drivers at that time didn't support surround through daisychaining, but oddly enough the desktop worked fine on it, over the last couple of years I have found there are strange issues with the resolution on the final screen that appear once in a while while daisy chaining, swapping cables and monitor positions doesnt seem to cure it but disconnecting power to all 3 monitors and the pc, waiting about 10 minutes then turning them on in sequence itself cures it for a few months, I have learned to live with it :/
