The first of a ten-part series on Celtic in the 1970's, charting their decline from European giants to Continental mediocrity as Jock Stein's carefully laid succession plans were scattered to the wind and the stars of the Quality Street Gang, who promised to keep them at the top of the European game through the 1970's, slipped through the manager's fingers for reasons both in, and out of his control. Stein himself was involved in a near-fatal car crash in July 1975, after which by all accounts he was never the same again, and he resigned in May 1978, with Celtic finishing in fifth place in the Premier Division, their worst performance since the early 60's. A cruel decade ended with Billy McNeill leading them to the Championship on a never-to-be-forgotten night in May 1979 when ten men won the league.

My dad was at the final in Milan he said that we did underestimate Feyenord, but also there was a bit of tension with the players who felt they should be getting better money due to Man Utd winning it in 1968 my dad passed when I was 21 years old your channel is so comforting to me thank you HH💚🍀

Without question, the worst night of my footballing life. Separated from my pals because of a transport strike and a ticketing mix-up, I was alone in the corner above where Big Billy's poor header led to their equaliser. Sick. I was both screaming for Connelly to come on and praying for a replay the whole second half. The game, before and during, was a catalogue of errors that had far greater consequences than we realised at the time. The plane back to Dublin was a sombre journey indeed.

That Celtic squad should have won at least four European Cups - we were feared all over Europe at the time but silly individual mistakes seemed to cost us every time. One cup was a poor return for the talent we had - but don't worry, I still revel in it! 🤣

Another fine piece of work. Don't know how I missed it when it first came out three months ago. That cartoon poster at 1:03:48 brought back memories. I think I had it on my bedroom wall as a ten year old. Don't recall where I got it from, possibly the Sunday Mail. Keep up the good work!
