During the funeral of 10 children and teenagers killed on a football pitch in the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights, Syrian Druze wrapped their deceased in white shrouds only, and did not cover them with any flag as they carried their caskets through the streets to their final resting place.
The Druze Authorities Forum had stated that they wanted a quiet religious funeral according to Druze customs. Forum chief Jaber Jadban requested Israeli ministers not to attend the Majdal Shams funerals to avoid politicising the incident. Despite this, Israeli political leaders showed up, leading to angry residents demanding they leave.
The Israeli army has accused Hezbollah of carrying out the attack. Hezbollah denied responsibility and instead blamed a stray projectile from Israel’s Iron Dome missile system.
