Expand & Simplify: (2x - 3)(3x + 5)

To expand and (2x - 3)(3x + 5) we need to first multiply 2x by (3x +5) and then multiply -3 by (3x + 5). We are essentially using the distributive property to expand and simply (2x - 3)(3x + 5).

Often the FOIL method is used to help students remember (but it's the same thing as described above). We multiply the first terms, then the outside terms, the inside terms and finally the last terms.

For both methods we end up with:
6x2 + 10x - 9x -15
which we can simplify to: 6x2 + x - 15

If you were to factor 6x2 + x - 15 you'd get (2x - 3)(3x + 5).
