Gateway was a very rewarding read. Realistically portrayed characters in a pulp sci-fi setting. It was actually moving and thoughtful. I was not prepared or disappointed.

Great spoiler free coverage! So good to see this series talked about.

As you know I loved Gateway as much as you did but have yet to read on in the series. Have been looking forward to this video for some time and you've intrigued me enough to continue on beyond the first book!

Gateway has been on my TBR for years but for one reason or another I've never gotten around to it, thanks for lighting a fire under me to get it started, great video!

Your review of the series reminded me of ‘The Matrix’ movies. Sometimes I appreciate the extrapolation from the first movie and most often I think ‘The Matrix’ would be an even more iconic film if there hadn’t been any sequels. Sometimes feel that way about ‘Ender’s Game’ although the stopping point should have been the third novel. Read ‘Gateway’ a long time ago and plan to reread. Don’t think I’ll tackle the sequels.

The first time i came across Gravitational time dilation was years ago when i read somewhere that over the course of the earths 4 billion years, time passed at sea level vs time passed at the altitude of say, the top of Everest, would be 39 hours difference. Which to me sounds huge and infinitesimal simultaneously lol. Since then I've come across it lots of times in SF and always find it fascinating. I'm looking forward to getting to this series eventually. I have the first four books!

I enjoyed the boy who would live forever. Gateway was my favorite book all time.

bro do you remember that Starchild Trilogy book with the awesome cover art we were talking about? the one by Pohl and Jack Williamson with the dude on the cover riding a space seahorse like he’s at a rodeo? well to cheer myself up after the (in my opinion, disastrous) US election, I decided to read that because it looked like a spirited, freewheeling read.

I could not have picked a worse book for the time. It’s basically dystopian computer overlord 1984 with spare body part dismemberment concentration camps. That book scared the F!!! out of me, for real, I couldn’t finish it. No more Pohl or Williamson for me, nope nope!

Isn't it odd that authors come up with a really great concept then fail to develop it:
To Your Scattered Bodies Go,
Gateway,
Rendezvous with Rama,
Ringworld,
Orbitsville.
Don't you feel disappointed that these all just fizzled out?
