Thanks for your review. My advice on the sequels that Pohl wrote is (if you don't mind nearly all of Gateway's mysteries being answered) to read 'Beyond The Blue Event Horizon' and stop there. While it is a direct continuation of 'Gateway', it is written in a different style, so do not expect a repeat of the first books emotional intensity and sharp focus. I cannot recommend 'Heechee Rendezvous' or 'The Annals Of The Heechee', which are nearly plotless and contain a great amount of padding. 'Heechee Rendezvous' in particular involves something that permanently alters how you view 'Gateway' and Pohl executes this is a very routine way as well.
