A good video. A marine / rv battery is better in a truck or SUV if you do a lot of camping and hiking because you can run your lights, etc... while camping in the dark night. You can discharge the battery down to 50% or lower and it will not ruin the battery. If you discharge a flooded lead acid automobile battery to 50% or lower it will oftentimes damage the battery because the automobile battery is a starting battery only and has no deep cycle discharge ability.

On three separate occasions with three separate vans that I have owned in the past I used the blue top deep cycle marine battery and all them and I don't care what anybody says they all worked really well and tremendously better in my Vans then the regular vehicle batteries

A good video. Two thumbs up from Kingsport, Tennessee! A new subbie here! Happy New Year!

Yeah I prefer deep cycles too cause when they can carry you through a trip when unexpected electrical problems happen

Thanks! My truck battery just died at home, but my trolling battery is charged.

My 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with the 5.0L 302 V8 just reached 250, 000 miles two days ago. The engine has never been worked on. I change my oil, oil filter, air intake filter, and spark plugs. The engine still runs like NEW! However, I am more of a Chevy man, but this SUV (Mountaineer) that I currently drive has really impressed me! My Mountaineer is all-wheel-drive and I recently placed some new Cooper Discoverer AT tires on it for $106 a tire from Walmart. I love to drive it deep into the Appalachian mountains where I often camp and hike.

I have been wanting to do this but people say that it overcharges the battery and this and that. Does the battery charge fine?

I believe it fair to admit I am not a professional or certified automotive technician, my background is in Atomic physics/optical engineering and electronics engineering, bear this in mind if you are reviewing my comments. It is rare that I leave comments bug this was very interesting and informative.

Installing a deep cycle marine battery in an ordinary everyday drive truck, when evaluated from a engineering standpoint reveals several insurmountable incongruities sir.
Now, ...as you undoubtedly know, these discrepancies stem from fundamental differences in the design and functionality of deep cycle marine batteries compared to the stringent energy demands of an everyday drive truck's electrical system.

So, to begin.... deep cycle marine batteries are expressly engineered for extended discharges and recharges, tailored for use in maritime vessels where consistent power delivery over long durations is essential. This design as you know, necessitates a battery chemistry optimized for slow, sustained energy release, which diverges significantly from the high current, rapid discharge requirements of an automotive starter battery.
Ok... So secondly, the internal structure of deep cycle marine batteries are designed and built with thicker lead plates.... increasing their energy storage capacity but diminishing their capacity to deliver high cranking amperage, a quintessential attribute sir, for your trucks ignition and starting system. So, as your are engaging in the rigorous process of cranking your cold engine, precisely when the innate limitations of a deep cycle marine battery would manifest ok, ..leading to inadequate starting power and potentially detrimental consequences to the vehicle's engine and electrical components.
Whatsmore, deep cycle marine batteries are predisposed to a different depth-of-discharge (DoD) profile, enduring repeated cycles of partial discharge without detriment. In contrast, a conventional automobile alternator continuously maintains the battery's state of charge at or near full capacity, which induces a shallow DoD for starter batteries, in which deep cycle batteries may deteriorate prematurely due to a lack of full recharge.
In conclusion sir, the deployment of a deep cycle marine battery in an everyday drive truck, as evaluated within the realm of electronics engineering viewpoints, would represent, Respectfully sir, a suboptimal choice due to its inherent disparities in energy release dynamics, cranking amperage capabilities, and susceptibility to premature degradation.

Yesterday my jeeps battery was dead..my husband had a fit and said I left something on….I knew I never did, well come to find out he had put in a battery he got at his sons work…a marine battery…..so yeah you shouldn’t especially if you live in a cold climate like we do…….so DONT PUT IN A MARINE BATTERY

Diehard are good batteries. At least they used to be when Sears owned them. I still use Diehard in both my trucks to this day. Never had any issues. Previous diehard battery Lasted me 7 years no problems.
