Billionaire. Playboy. Philanthropist. CRIMINAL?! Wait, what? Okay maybe it’s obvious that Tony Stark hasn’t had the “best” business practices. But what you may not know is that war profiteering is not the worst of his crimes. In fact, he should probably be facing LIFE in prison! But to see his full sentence, you’ll have to watch this episode.

Realistically the most likely reason Tony isn't charged with any crimes is because of Nick Fury. SHIELD has a lot of sway in the MCU and seems to operate on their own terms in many cases. Fury's contact with Tony at the end of the first movie was probably not only enough to get him as an agent of SHIELD but also make sure any crimes he committed were considered justifiable under the conditions they were in.

The fact that the Billionaire doesn't get arrested is the most realistic part of the movies.

This episode is literally just MatPat having the same realizations JJJ had about Spiderman

tony being forced to give money to government because his suit considered as private airplane is pretty funny

He's not the only one who breaks a lot of laws. Pretty much every superhero could be walloped on several laws being broken.

I would LOVE a Film Theory episode on repulsors - more specifically the science behind them, how they work, and how practical they could be for a flight suit.

Nicolas cage said it perfectly. He “did what was considered wrong, in order to do what he knew was right”

I actually think the iconic line "I am Iron-man" is his real life legal loophole for keeping his suits privatized. he is identifying himself as the iron-man and making no seperation legally between himself and his suits, an individual can not be legally considered a weapon because that would involve legally labeling them as property, and so by claiming that he is iron-man and therefor the suits are an extension of himself he is creating a legal loophole to prevent the government from seizing anything.

RDJ improvising "I am Iron Man" was one of the best moves in the MCU. Just imagining the series where its him doubling back constantly and trying to portray Tony Stark and Iron Man separately like a secret identity would have likely ended up a weird bungled mess. Especially considering how he was one of the few people in the world at the time with the means, money, and knowhow to do it, and in the right circumstance. I cant imagine him trying to constantly play that off.

Remember that near the end of the first movie, S.H.I.E.L.D planned on helping him to cover up the fact that he was the Iron Man. They gave him those speech card things (I forget what they're called) to help him with denying that he was Iron Man.
A government agency secretly helping a billionaire be free of what he did in that first movie.

I always figured that they just assumed they had no way of containing stark in a prison cell. no matter what punishment they would try to enforce im sure tony would just be like "nah" they would have no way of containing that man so they just left him alone and figured "well at least hes sort of on our side"

To be fair, Peter Parker dying to Thanos's snap had very little to do with Tony Stark (other than the fact that the heroes failed to stop Thanos). It wouldn't have mattered where Peter was when the snap happened, he just happened to be a part of the unlucky half population that was snapped away.

In regards to all the permits and paperwork, I imagine Jarvis (and Friday) simply auto-filled and submitted all the necessary stuff for Tony (and Peter).
Also there's the whole SHIELD thing, likely wiping away most of his crimes while hanging on to the juicy stuff as leverage.

It’s always been a bit weird that Spider-Man was basically kidnapped to make a child soldier, especially without aunt may knowing.

The government knew he was Iron Man well before the "I am Iron Man" scene. Rhodey knew pretty much right away. The government knew maybe 10 minutes later. The only thing the "I am Iron Man" scene did was let the public know. But the public already had extremely reliable rumors that he was Iron Man. They just hadn't heard it yet from the horses mouth.

That "contraband" to "abandoned" editing was top notch. Props to the editor/editors.

I gotta say, this video feels like an old school topic being presented on the new style of editing. I'm LOVING it

Most of this was likely covered by some "conditional immunity" clause written into Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D *"Avengers Initiative"*. So long as he kept Stark's name on the list of members (or even potential members) it probably blocked most government agencies from pursuing action against him.

This was followed up after S.H.I.E.L.D collapsed by the "Sokovia Accords" and Stark being one of the initial signatories of that legislation.

Getting away from Tony, have yall ever noticed that Loki's eyes were blue, like he was being mind controlled, during the first Avengers movie?

MatPat, we need a theory on this

In a world where literal superheroes exist, I would be extremely surprised if the world didn't have its own set of superhero rules and exceptions
