Large radar, not equals to, cartography deck.

Similar to ship computers, they are not the same as the specialized computers in the herald or MSR.

even tho CIG has not gone into detail about these ship elements, once the gameplay is there, there will be a difference between the components/facilites I mentioned.

CIG have made it confusing but it seems that what CIG mean by spawning is
When you 'summon' your ship to a hangar, it can have a correctly sized ship loaded in the hangar 'hardpoint'.
Which is why while 'if it fits it sits' still works, it's only going to 'spawn in' if the hangar was designated to it.

So I'd guess that loading into the game with other peoples ships in the hold will get a revision to decide how and when you can do that, and when their ships despawn.

I have one of these and I can tell the community just doesn’t want to accept how valuable one of these will be because of the whole carrack killer drama but when it goes to fly able and the price goes up I will use the heck out of it as a pyro player just chilling deep in some asteroid belt while the rest of my “work a day” ships are in Stanton

i see this ship as a good industry org ship, while the carrack is more for military use and exploring dangerous areas...

I had proposed this to some org mates, but there is nothing in the current mining system that says you can't fracture a rock with the Odyssey. I anticipate it just not being able to extract or scoop anything other than quantanium. But if working with a Prospector...depending on the size of the mining head on the Odyssey, it cracks, prospector scoops and then dumps it's bags into the hanger.

Now if I had infinite money, or if Star Citizen was stable enough to be my _only_ hobby...

This ship has recently gotten a lot more of my attention. I thought I had long settled on something like the Constellation or Corsair being as big as I'd ever go for a ship, pledge or in game. But lately... I've had Odyssey on the brain.

Just like all Large ships, the Odyssey will get bigger as it gets closer to flyable. I own a 10 year insurance version pack with Sabre and a ground vehicle (forgot which one it was). I spent store credits that I've saved up over time by melting other ships. Thank you Grumpy for this content. I've also been informed that the ship hangar bay is way too high, waste of space.

I think it was only one Dev said that they thought of it as a "Carrack Killer." CIG never sold it that way. The Carrack is very popular as a "home away from home" type ship, and from that point of view, there is an argument for this as a "Carrack Killer."

"a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one"

I think when CIG refer to spawning ships inside other ships they are referring to being able to load it at a spaceport rather than materialise it wherever you are.

Hard to say really because we don't have any real capital ship gameplay. While it's neat to have a hangar you can't do anything practical yet except hitch a ride. later on if you can be refueled, repaired or rearmed or even if spawning ships from there becomes a thing would give capital ships a defined role in the game.
Spec wise I agree that it has what I would call minimal defense weapons, size 5's are respectable and its hard to say where guns will be placed in the future. Right now they are kinda leaning towards 1-4 anti fighter, 5-6 longer range large anti ship (corvettes- freighters), 7-9 are anti-capital ship and size 10 being reserved for special super heavy weapons.
It does make an attractive org ship with its medical bay, small hangar bay and refueling ability. I would say it would add allot more value if you could refuel other ships like the starfarer with it or maybe at least have additional fuel tank options instead of the Carrack's module pods.
Hopefully the computers will give it that flexibility you mentioned. A capital class shield is rather attractive but even with that this ship looks easy pickings for a polaris or persi to snuff out. Exploration game play still really isn't defined, I can see it being well suited for it if you required the rover options and it was maybe loot based where having a large ship you can land and be pretty sure is tough enough not to be very vulnerable while running other missions. I think if I had that many people on my ship however i'd rather go with an Idris which seems to have allot more going for it. Crew sizes for these kinds of ships seems a little high but maybe the computers will allow you allot of automation if you want it thus giving you an easy to manage cap ship.

The biggest issue with this ship, is that it relies on the small carried ship to make money. It has no real ability of its own to make money (it isn't an exploration ship, it isn't a refueling ship, and it isn't a mining/refining ship either). Small ships make small money, big ships need big money to run. So I don't see how this ship can be at all profitable.

The Odyssey also doesn't support drones and modular cargo pods unlike the Carrack.

in my opinon, it should have had a refueling arm. so it could mine and refine and refuel ships.
That way it could be a capital ish starfarer.

If you can fit a Vulcan inside the hangar on this ship, all the long range requirements are completely covered. Although there will be a drone repair module in the works for the bottom of the Carrack which will make that ship very capable again and the darling explorer once again for anyone who lost faith in it.

You said a couple things I agree with. It’s multi-role and it’s a mobile base. That is it’s mojo. Ody kills nothing, it’s basically a Starfarer+ or a FL Super Max with bonus features.

Ody and Carrack make far better partners than rivals. I wish more people could see that.

I’m pretty sure the Scorpius will fit in the odyssey which will give it a huge advantage to have a heavy fighter with the ship which is awesome. Makes it perfect for Pyro 😂.

Cool ship! We need more larger ships in the game. My Carrack is enuf bit look forward to this ship coming in.

This ship reminds me of the front driving canopy of the endeavour.

Do like the design aesthetics and the functionality of this ship. I thought about picking this up when I was prepared to support this game but with other large ships I really didn't have a use for it.
