So a wandering trader will actually despawn even if you put a nametagf on them or put them in a boat or whatever. You can't keep a wandering trader and they cannot repenish its trades either.

What Y level is the most efficient? if its below 30 y level (like 28 or something)

3 questions 1.does it work if its at y=37 2. does the whole chunk need to be cleared to there can be some walls 3. do they spawn with lights ?

Nametagged wandering traders DO despawn!

Wandering traders actually despawn after 40min and a nametag doesn't change that

Just a simple correction, a nametag or putting a wandering trader in a boat/minecart won't stop it from despawning, after 40 minutes or 2 days in game, it will, the only way to stop it from despwaning is to keep the trading UI open, unfortunately.
