Reason why he never tried to charm Dumbledore is cause he already saw his darker crueler side when he met him at the orphanage and he knew trying to suddenly be nice and empathetic towards him would only make Dumbledore suspicious

I'm honestly confused as to why love potions aren't like MASSIVELY illegal. It literally brought about the dark ages and the Wizarding war.

It’s odd when you think about how charming he was considering he was a creepy outcast at the orphanage. By all accounts he should’ve been a friendless weirdo at Hogwarts because he would’ve lacked any social skills.

While at the orphanage he did not manipulate people with charm but rather with fear. That is his true nature. When he started school he realised that he had a chance to reinvent himself. Noting, I'm sure with glee, the sympathy & leeway his tragic story gave him with the faculty, he would have quickly learned how to get what he wanted.

Dude had anime main character power of friendship, pretty scary power for a villain to have

His straightforwardness and confidence in what he was after helped a lot with his charm I believe

For some reason the muggles in the orphanage saw him as an evil sociopath, could be magic damping or just them getting to know him.

Not a bad theory. But some genius, narcissistic people such as Hitler, that Voldemort was somewhat based on, can have powers of persuasion. They know how to reach the hearts and minds of people, and turn them toward their side.

Voldemort as insane and mad as he became, didn’t gain a power base from fear and strength alone. His followers saw him as a great leader that can achieve a Pureblood Wizarding government in Britain

Even as a student, his ability to persuade others is as a dangerous weapon as his power, as only Dumbledore saw through his charming veneer

I'd actually be really interested to see what he was like in his first couple of years at Hogwarts. It seems to have been the discovery that his father was not magical (and therefore his mother likely was) that made him break fully bad & become obsessed with defeating death. Maybe there was a period in his first two or three years where he was just kinda happy to be there ?

Well all I know is when Ralph Fiennes showed up, all that charm turned into awkward hilariousness 😂

He has all that power yet still couldn’t fix his nose. 😂

I think that it is mostly a portrayal of his psychopathy, since psychopaths are usually considered charming, and it's scary to think that the smartest and most charming in your school is wizarding hitler

That is why i think he was more dangerous back then when he was handsome and charming cause he was able to get what he wanted and able to get people to tell him what he wants to know but now he doesn't have that anymore

The potion his mother used on his father made it so that he could not love

Perhaps he used some kind of magic to enhance his charisma.

There’s a love potion and a luck potion so why not another magical means to increase one’s charisma.

When I heard "charm" I just figured it was a spell rather than him being a charismatic young man interacting with his peers.

Though when you put it like that, it makes sense given his strong sense of conviction towards his Death Eaters.

Still don’t get why he decided to become a botched plastic surgery victim.

I thought it partially had to do with his ability to read the thoughts of others, Legilimency.

No, I don't think the love potion had anything to do with his success at charming people. He was good looking, and worked his way to being one of the top students at Hogwarts. Besides, we know he was an expert manipulator and a psycopath. He did to all the teachers what he did to Slughorn, he told him what he wanted to hear, gave him gifts, complimented him...And then when he got what he wanted he simply stopped caring, he discarded him as easily as he won him over with his ”charm”. It is not difficult to get someone to like you or to make a good impression, we all have done it, maybe by giving said person a gift, laughing at the things they Say, the difference is that Tom Riddle never cared. He used his teachers with a whole new personality he created, he never had a shred of respect for them, to him they were marionetes. We are weak and when we are down And at rock bottom, a few kind words (especially from someone Smart or good looking unfortunately) are enough trust them entirely And do what You are told.

Sorry for the spelling/grammar, English isnt My first language. Great video btw. It was very interesting

The biggest lesson I learned from HP: A child conceived by the use of a love potion (falsehood and lies) are never able to give nor accept love.
