For starters!
1. IPL model is based on American sports leagues where the teams buy players in auction(draft as they call it with different rules).
2. IPL growing to 10 teams would make the leagues earnings up by a good percentage as "Ahmedabad and Lucknow" are expected franchises where the stadiums are having capacity of 100, 000+ and 50, 000. Plus more matches means more money flowing in every direction.
Hope they go back to Double-round robin after 2022 broadcasting deal expires❤️...
