The rotator cuff muscles are very well known - and in fact, are one of the most studied topics in anatomy, especially for beginners. The rotator cuff is a functional unit of four muscles considered to belong to the shoulder. These four muscles are the infraspinatus, supraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor.

The rotator cuff functions are related to the glenohumeral joint. Here, the muscles of the rotator cuff work to stabilize and center the humeral head in the joint socket, the glenoid cavity. The rotator cuff muscles are of course also involved in internal and external rotation of the upper arm in the shoulder joint. All four muscles originate at the scapula and insert at the humerus. However, each muscle performs a slightly different action.

In this short video preview, we cover:
0:13 Location of the rotator cuff muscles
0:43 Muscles of the rotator cuff
