Removing the Heatsink from a Samsung 990 Pro

Don't forget to test it before voiding your warranty! I have an 8 year old SSD with Samsung so I am taking the risk but I had first installed Windows on it to ensure it worked and checked the health with Samsung Magician.

Just did it, pro tip you can use a hair drier to warm up the heatsink first, mine popped off immediately after a bit of warming up.
Had to remove the heatsink because I got my hands on the x870e godlike and its heatsinks rock!

Thank you! Bought the heatsink version as it was cheaper (how does this ever make ANY sense to anyone, how do two products that are supposed to be identical, differ in price when one has more material than the other...)

I know why, its still silly though.

Bought this also because amazon is useless at identifying which aftermarket ssd heatsinks are compatible with new and old PS5's (try and look for yourself... most of the ads are either incomplete or outright lie, trust me, after numerous returns i know)

the one we ended up keeping doesn't let the panel on the PS5 close, so hoping to transfer this heatsink to that since i KNOW they fit :) (hopefully it works just fine for a Kingston model but its far cooler running so I'm not worried.

Edit, this probably made no sense, my MOBO has built in heavy heatsinks, so im pulling the built in one off and giving it to the PS5 SSD which doesn't quite fit correctly at the moment.

I just bought ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E and Samsung 9100 PRO HeatSink SSD 2TB should i remove original heatskink from ssd and use X870E-E heatsink ?
