lol Years ago my friends father bought a Chevy Sprint (the little 3 cylinder) & he was obsessed with his gas mileage. We started adding about 1/2 gallon to his tank every night. After about a week he proudly announced that his new driving technique paid off big time because he was getting almost 60 MPG. lol Wow!! The next week we took gas out every night. He got home from filling up & he was really upset thinking something must be wrong with his car because his mileage didn't even hit 30 MPG. He was checking his plugs & everything else. We asked a bunch of questions & made suggestions about what could have caused those changes. After a bit we asked if adding gas one week & then removing gas from his tank could have made a difference? It took him a min to comprehend what we were saying & to realize he had been the victim of a joke. We did keep track of exactly how much we took out & added to his tank so he could calculate his mileage after the fact.
That was close to 30 years ago & we still get a good laugh out of that one.
The best part was he went around for a week boasting to everyone that he got 60 MPG by driving a little slower & timing lights. Then he had to admit we tricked him and, in reality, he only got 45 MPG which was still pretty darn good for the time.

Keep in mind if you are driving on the highway a lot your mileage might change (for the better) so it could throw off your calculations! =)

This week the cheapest gas I could find was $2.00 a gallon for regular here in California. Now it's back up to almost 3$+ :(
