Civil engineering is a branch which can take you to heights or drop you to the bottom. There is no mid in this.
I am civil engineer 2017 batch pass out. Currently enjoying my career in a public sector company.
I love my job I love being a civil engineer and the reputation and respect I get in the society.

So give your 100 percent in your degree and you can do wonders both in private and government sectors.

I can give one example of benefit of Civil Engineering. I knew two people who lost jobs during pandemic - One a Civil Engineer and another a software developer. Civil Engineer lost job around age 52 years. He started practicing as private consultant and after 2-3 years has started earning more than Rs 1L per month, only by doing designing and consulting. The 2nd one - software developer lost job in Jan 2024. Age 50 years. No choice but took retirement. Why? In today's vast rapidly change in software technology, its difficult to learn new technology at age 50 years. Currently no choice but seat idle at home, thinking to start business like opening some shops like that. With age and experience Civil Engineer demands increases whereas its just the reverse in CSE. My advice, its too early to regret your decision of choosing Civil Engineering. It can help you earn even at the age of 70 years. That's not the case in any other areas.

Civil is a overstressed and underpaid branch. No matter how skilled you are, still you are being paid less as compared to your workload. Even if you consider USA and other developed countries, civil engineers are underpaid. Everyone opts a professsion to live a respectable life and achieve his financial goals. There are so many fields that are easier than civi and pay is more so why to stick with this oldest shitty branch. The YouTuber is right to some extent.

I am Civil Engineer, 1994 batch through WBJEE from one reputed college in WB. Well placed. At that time there was no private college in WB. All students depended on 1200 seats available under WBJEE in 4 govt eng colleges - Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering College (currently IIEST), 20% seat reserved in NIT Durgapur and North Bengal. As per WBJEE rank whatever branch we got, we had to select it. There was absolutely no choice back then. Now, students have more choices. If they can afford paying higher fees in pvt eng college, I recommend to go for CSE. Reason is simple - Possibility of getting good base salary is high. However, before entering into any colleges one need to check how is its placement history. Regarding Civil Engg, do not expect good base salary from any college. Even in IIT Kharagpur, average CTC was only Rs 15L last yr or so. One can imagine what will happen to other colleges. In JU I found 97 out of 106 got placed in campus interview from Civil Engg dept - base salary ranges from Rs 3L and > Rs 20L. I am sure majority got jobs in IT sector, not in Civil Engg sector. So, go for CSE / Electronics / Instrumentation / IT / Electrical in govt or pvt colleges, provided its placement history is good.

Today i work with a top class MNC as a structural engineer, in an OFFICE, on a DESK, Far away from your tantrums "muje to dhoop me kaam nahi krna". I have done that too without complaints.

If you have tantrums working under the sun, then sorry My friend, you're not also worthy of the offices.

And Mark My Words ! In the near future, you'll see a huge scarcity of Civil and Structural Engineers, just because tum jese log Misguide krte hai Degrees lene ke baad baaki bcho ko. And the small proportion of people who'll remain to be the civil and structural Engineers will have abundance of scope because
