An architect's dream is an engineer's nightmare😂

What’s crazy is…I’m both an architectural drafter, and civil drafter 💀 so generally….I’m arguing with myself

This video was clearly made by an engineer

A passionate architect knows the norms and will take his concept to the extremes within them. A passionate engineer will see an extraordinary architectural concept as a challenge and enhance it. If the chemistry between the architect and the engineer is "electric" and they can inspire the other contributors in the project, a masterpiece will ensue.

this guy has not worked with an architect ever before.... architect needs to insure that the building complies with laws, regulations, energy needs, space, heating, lighting. enough parking spaces, ventilation, that the whole building complies with codes in the region as well as the latest international expectations. ect... an engineer just needs to make sure the math works on the structure. Many architects also coordinate between the clients and all other professions. this guy has never worked with an architect clearly

Clearly this is an engineer creating this post, I understand as an architect the challenge all engineers face when presented a design that requires innovative solutions; I also know we all discredit a field we know little about specially if we have a sufficient experience working with each other, but at the end of the day, limits have to be pushed, so our society can have a better life, and it is a conjoined responsibility between architects and engineers to willingly take this responsibility and build a better world so the newer generation of Architects and engineers will have to solve newer problems and also better what we struggled to realize.

Talking as if architects don't study about structure and form for 7 yrs, and architects do earn more than engineers too

You seem to forget that architecture is is not all about aesthetic. The architect’s job is to be the master builder. They plan the overall design, layout and structure of the building. They combine the works of various engineering fields to their own works to make a “strong, functional and beautiful” building

Edit: I know that this is just a very simplified video to tackle the main difference between an architect and an engineer, I added this comment for the viewers to understand that architecture is not just all about aesthetic

Of course the engineer is going to put glass in the building

theres a reason why architecture is one of the most difficult studies in university.

The architect carries all the project in mind,
The engineer only thinks about the structural parts of the project presented by the architect

Architect sale the ideas.. if the idea doesn’t fulfill the client needs.. there’s nothing engineer can build..

Whatsoever be the engineer's logic, qualification and experience its the Architect who first visualizes a building. So a building will always be known by the one who designs it...THE ARCHITECT.

You paint architects as school children who just discovered watercolors. Architects have to figure out how tf to make the program work for the client while meeting the established budget, aesthetics, climate, and building codes. The engineer deals with all the structural work, which means inputting all the data into programs that figure out the math.

Architects can also reason based on logic and often they do deconstruct and redefine what’s possible or natural. this engineering “realistic”mindset just emanates nihilistic dead architects dreams when you alienate one from the other. We don’t rely on you to fix our designs; we have the same intrinsic critical thinking and problem solving capabilities, don’t hate lol.

I don't see any problem in this video about structural engineers and architects. What I see is, structural engineers and architects have a teamwork to build.

We also look at function too and if the building can either be actualized or not…and we look at sustainability and the 3 pillars of sustainability are economy, ecology and society…at least that’s what they teach us in school so I see no reason how it isn’t actualized irl

Architects don't just make stuff look good, they think through the details as well. A good architect knows how to construct what he draws, and is very much as grounded and realistic as he is a dreamer. No good architect will present an engineer with an idea that he hasn't thought through the structural stability of, and this video is not communicating that.

Engineer: "This isn't pretty, but it would survive 9.0 earthquake and whatever category a hurricane has."

If they have a budget.
