Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Valve. Apparently the bots started out as just a way to grab Valve's attention in hopes of it getting TF2 an update. Then, the people hosting the bots went mad with power.

I’ve started to think it’s valve doing it so they have an excuse not to update the game cuz now they can just say that it’s only bots playing

Other games' creators are spamming bots into this game to ruin it, so we'd all go play other games instead....

They do actually make profit off of this, some notorious bot hosters, such as omegatronic atleast did at one point or still do sell things that you can buy to stop them from hosting their bots for like a day, or get immunity from the bots

I actually spoke to a bot hoster a while back. There was one that essentially just had a "to ask more, contact [discord username]" so I turned on a VPN, readied my antivirus, and contacted them. Turns out they were just doing it for fun. They got enjoyment out of ruining the game for other people. Then they blocked me, so that's fun.

This could be an exception, but it's noteworthy nonetheless

Let me tell you something Zealot, some people just want to watch the world burn, some people get their kicks from being an ass and ruining stuff for others. These botters are most likely just people that think it’s funny to ruin games for others.
