The WORST NYC Subway Station : 191st Street

preview_player
Показать описание
I explore the absolute worst looking NYC Subway Station : 191st Street. It is also the deepest station in the subway system. Watch as there is garbage, leaks, mold, and peeling paint all throughout the tunnel leading to the subway station. There is also a smashed up subway countdown clock at the entrance. The pedestrian tunnel was renovated multiple times, and is the responsibility of the NYC DOT. However, it has fallen under disrepair and needs to be fixed up.

Having grown up in Washington Heights I’ve walked this tunnel countless times over the last three decades. Not once have I ever let my guard down, no matter what time of day or night, drunk or sober, or how gentrified the neighborhood has slowly become. That tunnel Is a muggers paradise and I would advise anyone using the tunnel daily, to always be on point. I’ve seen countless unsuspecting young women that are new arrivals to the area, jogging with headphones on with a street knowledge of -0%. Assumption is the worst thing you can do regarding your own personal safety. Although New York has gotten dramatically better since the 80’s in relation to crime, COVID has lit a match on a desperate populace drenched in petrol, and I urge anyone reading this to stay safe.

Man, I lived in NYC all my life and have ridden the subways for the majority of it. This is definitely NOT the worse station in the city. Name me a station in this city that is NOT filled with garbage and filth. I still think it cannot compare to the 80s. You want to see how bad it really was then u should see how bad they looked then when they fully neglected the subway system.

unfortunately this isn’t even the worst, there’s much more depressing stations than this one & in my opinion the tunnel actually adds some character lol

Honestly i think the graffiti tunnel just needs to be clean.. the whole graffiti looks nice and creative actually rather than looking vandalized.

If you always been a New Yorker born and raised it’s always been that way even worst back then in the 80’s & 90’s

Ain't that bad, honestly. Looks like a perfectly regular subway station over here in Berlin.

He’s buggin. The graffiti is legit NYC own character and actually looks good. The only thing I agree that needs to get cleaned up is the garbage that’s about it. He probably just moved to the city

No matter what, I still believe the Chambers Street station downtown is far, FAR more grotesque.

They just need to clean the tunnel, other than that I actually like the wall art mixed with graffiti.

THE FIRST "ARTIST" THAT I SAW AS A CONDUCTOR IN 1967, SIMPLY WROTE "Taki 183" WITH A MARKER PEN ON D TRAIN STATIONS IN THE BRONX. THEN THE "MORONS" ON THE NEW YORK TIMES, SENT A "REPORTER" TO HUNT THE "ARTIST" DOWN. INSTEAD OF HAVING HIM ARRESTED FOR DEFACING PUBLIC PROPERTY, THEY DEVOTED A HALF PAGE ARTICLE PRAISING HIM AS A HERO. I CUT OUT THE ARTICLE AND SHOWED IT TO EVERY CONDUCTOR & MOTORMAN ON THE D LINE. I TOLD THEM THE ENTIRE SUBWAY WILL BE UNRECOGNIZABLE IN A FEW YEARS AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THE NEW TIMES, ALAWYS FILLED WITH THE OVERLY EDUCATED BRAIN DEAD.

Wow, watching this validates why I take my shoes off and leave them at the door once I get home.

I actually like the graffiti. It makes it interesting. Not the trash though.

The city should just put some garbage cans.

I liked the video. It would be even better without the comprehensive inventory of the rubbish in the tunnel. Once your audience gets the idea of it being filthy, there is no point in describing all the debris along the way.

Keep the videos coming!

Fun fact: this tunnel was used in the movie “Exposed” with Keanu Reeves. He was filmed walking through this tunnel and in several parts of St. Nicholas Ave. on 190th (around this station) for the movie.

Correction, the 1970's were the worst time for crime in NY. Not only statistically, but you could feel crime everywhere! I was there in there in the 70s eighties and 90s.
