I mix professionally for 10+ years, and this is the easiest and slickest way to do it. Duplicating the tracks makes it easier to spot the throws and create new ones, also changing the fx and trying new stuff gets more streamlined thank having to deal with automation, especially if you wanna try and change shit all the time. Well done sir!

You can do the same by using sends and automating the delay

I just automate my sends. Works rightly every time

The problem with this is that if you change any settings on the vocals, you gotta make the same change on the delay. That can be solved with PT groups but it’s also using twice the processing. That’s why ppl use sends for the delays. If you wanna work with audio instead of automation, but don’t wanna have to use twice the processing and group your plugins, I have a method. You use a send for your delay, create another track as a your delay trigger track, then have that trigger track side chained to a gate on the delay track. So the fully processed vocal is being sent to the delay track post inserts, but you only hear the delay when the trigger track tell the gate to allow the signal through.

Well, I see u getting a lot of criticism so I’ll say that I like your solution to this. I was avoiding this type of delay simply cause I didn’t know what to search for. But this randomly popped up and this’ll help me mix a few people I know a lil better.

I let the Artist double the whole verse
And extract the delay parts from the doubled track delete the rest of the doubled track . Its exactly the same but a little bit different

I never thought to invert the phase so it thins out. Usually I got for darker delays but that’s actually pretty cool. I’m gonna try that & the meta flang combo!

You can do the same thing by just calculating the reverb/delay times

Very smart and quicker on the fly for your template as well during tracking. Great idea

If you are like me and don't own r verb you can use any type of delay to achieve the same effect. Also for me the meta flanger is a little to much for my taste, instead try using the spreader on cla vocals !

Crazy to think once upon a time people were good at singing and didn’t need all this

usually use sends even if im duplicating the track

when using this technique i also trim and fade the audio in the fx track to fit with the timing, something he didnt do
