The problem i experienced myself and heard often from other people, that the surgical correctings often don't cut the roots of the nail part completely, so the nail part grow back damaged and is more likely to grow in another time. So my advice is to go to podiatrist and try every other method before surgical removal. My both toe nails are damaged for ever and just a new podiatrist saved my toes from many more surgical removals....

I had a reoccurring ingrown toenail from age 19-23, and twice a year I would visit my podiatrist to remove it. One day I had a new doctor who was like "Holy heck you've been here 8 times?!?! Why don't you get the small surgery to remove the sides?" It only took about an hour or 2 but I can't express how happy I was to walk without pain for the first time in 4 years.

As a dude who gets that often. My podiatrist taught me how to cut down the side of my nail once it starts getting uncomfortable. She saved me 50 quid a month, best podiatrist ive ever had. I still see her when the corrections dont work but ive not needed her aid gor like 3 months

English is not my first language so excuse my mistakes 🙏🏻

I have over 3 years of experience actually working with nail problems of all different types and let me tell you! No procedure on an operation table would permanently resolve this problem. The ingrown nail is just a symptom of a problem, not *the* problem.
If you won’t get rid of the cause that ingrown nail will come back over and over.

The first and main problem here is the sheer length of those toe nails. They grow in a downward direction, that may be because 1.the person was born with downward growing nails or more likely 2. because their socks and footwear are not correctly fitted in sized. Assuming that the second option is right, the nail plate is under a lot of pressure hence it digs into the skin causing keratosis under and around the sides of the toe nails.

My suggestion as a trained professional would be to please please cut your toe nails or get bigger socks and shoes that properly fit your feet 😬

I had a super bad ingrown nail once that developed a really painful balloon of flesh. Basically a ball of inflamed flesh/tissue due to constant piercing of the nail into the skin due to constant shoe use.

The doctor I went to who fixed the balloon said she could surgically fix it but that if she did she would have to cut off HALF of my toenail and that half of it would never grow back again. So I said no fucking thanks.

Now whenever my toenails start to grow into the flesh i’ll take a metal toenail file and use it to clean the build up of sock lint and dead skin from under the nail and use a pair of toenail clippers to carefully cut the excess nail away.

If I don’t take care of it in time and it creates a balloon I apply pure rosemary essential oil to the inflamed skin daily until the inflammation goes away and then cut the nail away. Rosemary oil is great topically because it contains anti-inflammatory properties. Just don’t eat the stuff.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Those aren't toenails, those are lethal weapons!

I have ingrown toenails on both feet. I had one cut out, which was pure hell by the way, and I asked them to kill the bed and they didn't do it. Told me it wasn't going to be necessary. They lied!

She's right about the procedure to permanently fix the problem. I had two removed and that forever changed my life! 🙏🏼

I had an ingrown nail for a few months, too scared to tell anyone so I dealt with the pain just hoping it'd magically disappear or something. One night as I was in bed, I got a heat flash so I kicked my blanket off of me, which at the same time, my nail was somehow stuck on the beds fibers and said "not today" which ultimately ripped it out of my skin plus took some of the nail with it and left my nail bed exposed. Bed was covered in blood as it just started gushing and all I could do was sit there and yell at myself to not pass out from the blood. It slowed down and I could finally get enough strength to get to the bathroom to wash it off and fix up what I could. I slept on my floor that night and bought a new bed the next day

The sticker probably just gives mild relief until you can get a long term procedure, not even a doctor but I know it probably won’t completely solve the issue

I am not joking, sometimes the ingrown nails are really, REALLY painful, I'm beginning to start to consider if I can get a surgical removal, because no matter how much I keep them clean or short, there is always one.

Had to have an ingrown nail fixed (froze the toe, shot of numbing solution, cut the nail, along w/ a little extra, so it wouldn't happen again)

Once I switched to extra wide shoes, no more ingrown nails

ingrown toenails suck. i’ve been having them my whole life, and the slightest pressure on one will send shockwaves of pain through your entire foot. i don’t have any currently, but i had one a couple months ago where it got so bad that i had to numb my toe, head to the doctors and they had to cut it out themselves. the numbing wore off halfway through, and i felt them poking around under my nail/skin. hurt a lot.

I have had the surgery on both big toenails, would recommend 👍
Recovery is only as painful as the ingrown itself
