In this week’s video… Navajo Historian, Wally Brown, teaches about Giants.

Yes there were tall people. But the giants in our stories are not physical beings but rather things everyone has to face.

The rough translation is “Big Fear”.

Everyone has their own big fear or Giant.

The two boys, commonly referred to as the “Hero Twins” were given the weapon to destroy those fears.

What it comes down to is Prayer and a connection to the Holy People. A belief that the Holy People are in charge.

Great story, Grandfather Wally! As a longtime student of literature, I love the symbolic use of giants as our fears. When we face our fears, we tend to overcome them. This makes makes us stronger; and perhaps more importantly, to face our fears makes us more understanding, and better able to relate to other persons, and to be less prejudicial in judging.

I would like to express my greatest admiration and respect to the people of the Navajo Tribe. And thank you for the invaluable insights and information about the traditional teachings of such a special people who have lived in North America since time immemorial. For me personally, this YouTube channel is a very special treasure trove of knowledge and priceless. The fact that this man, who sounds so wise and is very familiar with traditional stories, tells us his tribal stories and the cultural beliefs of the Navajo so brilliantly to the rest of the world is a very great honor for us. At least that's what I think. That was important to me to say. I am from Germany and am now 53 years old. Since my youth, the topic of American history and especially that of the Native Americans has been a special topic for me. But the knowledge I get here at Navajo Traditional Teachings is probably the most faithful and detailed story about it. As an ojibou mutt this wisdom makes much more scence. Although many old books bible included state that, in those days, there were giants. While I was dead god told me my son would be a giant amongst men and that nations would b ed healed in his life . Doctors said I'd never have kids .. my son was 6 ft at 11 years old . So FAITH an d PRAYER !

I have heard it said, and I agree, fear is an excellent servant but a poor master. Fear of being burned will keep us from putting our hand on the hot stove, then it is a servant. But, for instance, if we choose to stay in an abusive relationship due to fear of being alone, then fear had become the master. I think this is an absolutely wonderful story.
