On today’s episode, we tackle another one of my Spring time projects for my 2001 996 Porsche Carrera 4. This time, we’re fixing the car’s broken spoiler in the upright position to restore it’s functionality.

I think it’s more correct to say that the spoiler reduces lift, rather than providing downforce. Anyway, remarkably clean fix!

I had no idea it was hydraulic, thought it was geared, but never really looked at it. Hope mine never fails ($$$). If it does I think I'd go with keeping it down and adding a small duck tail spoiler.

I came here because I just fixed my 996 spoiler for the same problem. But, ouch -- why didn't you try to fix it in the first place? Was probably just a minor problem. A common prob;em is that the plastic coating of the actuator wire cracks and jams the tube. Just remove the plastic coating, put on some grease, and good to go again.

The mechanism is not hydraulic, it is a simple wire pull mechanism

can you put up the spoiler when you driver under the normal speed manually? Or does it only go up over a certain mark?
