One video and not 49 episodes, start to finish, good entertainment, no BS, great level of detail. Just perfect. Thank you!

These 99 model year 996 are super special! No onboard computer, different interior materials, throttle cable, amber lights, all make it unique to the 99. There are also rumors these were built on the production line at the same time as the 993 (at least the 98 build date cars). They are also incredibly light, IIRC just under 3000 pounds.

I am blown away by the fact that this ISN'T a several part video and gets right to the chase. Like, with how youtube's algo has been this is such a rare video. Appreciate it.

You heard wrong. The saying goes like this: "There is no such thing as a budget Porsche, only a budget FOR a Porsche."
And PORSCHE stands for Plenty Of Racing Should Cause Heavy Expenditure.
If I told you how much I spent on my 928 over 12 years of ownership, you would not believe me.

The newest information about the IMS bearing is as follows: The reason it can fail is due to drivers failing to drive aggressively enough when going hills. If you allow the car to stay in a high gear, with low revs while driving up a hill, the bearing can fail eventually. But if you change down a gear, raise the revs higher than the automatic would normally, then your IMS will never fail. Period.

Edit: Great to see you got the full leather package with the leather covered binnacle. The base level trim is... basic, and if you cover the Porsche logo on the wheel with your hand, it feels like you are sitting in a cheap Lexus from the 90s. Nice buy.

31:40 - Yep. 95% of all engine damage occurs in the first 15 seconds after startup - but only about 9 seconds for a 996 - because it's a horizontal motor and oil pressure reaches the heads much quicker. But another 4% of damage takes place before the engine warms to normal. So, keeping a 996 under 3, 500 rpm when cold is a tremendously good idea. God job.

What a beautiful car. No crazy wings and other crap. You did the right thing by not butchering it. Some old guy like me would love this as a weekend cruiser at a reasonable cost.

The amount of content you put in one video is amazing! Super entertaining.

Being from Wisconsin, I'm annoyed that you weren't EXTREMELY excited for how clean the underside of the car is, just like the rest of it.

Love your vids, love Porsche, had a repair shop for over 30 years. Just wanted to tell you that the oversized IMS bearing from 05- 08 are replaceable without splitting the case. There is a tool that shaves the block a few mm to enable the bearing to be pulled out. I have that tool and used it a few times, works great

Love this video. Bought a front end crashed 2002 996 with the 3.6. Fixed everything for about 1000 in parts from local dismantling yards and junkyards. Bought Cargraphic wheels and about to send it. 101k miles and the IMS was already done.

Awesome...you did the 'long content' video PERFECTLY !!
Progression and pacing were on point as this 43 minute video felt more like 15 minutes...GREAT Job!!

You scored on that replacement engine looks like it was a factory replacement for a car with a failed IMS. Mileage will be less than reported for the car, upgraded bearing, etc. You’ve got yourself a nice car there now.

You got such a great deal, I can't imagine finding a 996 under 10k in Europe

Love your videos…a 99 911 with a newer engine for under 16k is not bad at all…having said that I would have jammed an LS3 into it. The black steering wheel was well worth the investment…I prefer the stock rims over the BBS units. I’d consider that project a lot of Win!

Loved watching this! My speed yellow ‘99 had the same kind of failure. I opted to get it rebuilt into a Hartech/SRD 3.7. It’s still a couple days away from being completed, but this video gave me my 996 fix for now.

Thanks! IMHO, everyone considering buying a used "cheap" Porsche should watch this video.
Wish it were around when I bought mine... but probably would have bought it anyway.
Also, if you are bent on a Porsche, why not join the PCA first... then start looking at those for sale by the other members? Works for Rolls Royce / Bentley.😁

TOTAL WIN! Love your videos! Straight up shop talk and common sense. The smoky exhaust on the right side (from the left bank) was a hint to the #2 cilinder crack when it goes on the lift. Great job!!

I daily drive a '99 Carrera 4 and it's an amazing car. Congrats guys. As cool as those wheels are, I kind of wish you guys left the turbo twists on. Those are legendary wheels in their own right and they fit the car. Also I don't share your hatred for the four spoke, remember the steering wheel on the first 911?

I honestly think the original steering wheel looked better. Just needed a recover around the wheel itself. The one you swapped it for with all the air bag lines on looked pretty rough.
