Best Way To Tie Non-Slip Loop Knot (Optimal Number Of Turns For Strongest Knot Experiment)

I've done a lot of experiments about what the best loop knot for lures is and the clear winner is always the non-slip loop knot.

It's strong and the tag end faces toward the lure so it's essentially weedless.

However, there are a few ways to tie the non-slip loop knot, which leads us to the next question:

What's the best way to tie the non-slip loop knot?

Some people say you should use two turns, while others say three or four.

Instead of leaving this up for debate or relying on anecdotal evidence, I decided to do an experiment.

I used my line/knot strength tester to test two turns vs. three vs. four turns.

There was a difference in strength between these three versions of this loop knot, but the results were not what I was expecting!

See what the strongest version of this knot is, as well as which version I'll be tying from now on in this video.

Were these results what you expected?

Have any questions about the best way to tie the non-slip loop knot?

Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for the time bro.
Get that knot tester solid to a surface with some bolts or screws.

Can you try the reliability of Omniflex monofilament from walmart. It costs under 2$ for 150yds of and mono from 10lb to 50lb plus ive used this for years and havent had any thing wrong with it, ive recently switched to Trik fish and ANDE line because it felt more confident to buy from a brand ment for leader line. Thanks

Very good information you are given, keep it on going brother.

Do you still recommend 2 turns on 4lb test?

Since you are going to the effort to make measurements, you should secure the pull tester to a solid surface (note glasses of water indicating side-side motion) and secure the line directly below the direction of tension, rather than at an angle held by hand.

Some people use a uni or San Diego Jam that is not entirely clinched down as a loop substitute. It seems to work OK.

I straightened a white bass rig out today on an 8lb line with a two loop knot. Never thought it would have held.

I like a tight uni on a gotcha plug. I noticed it tangles up on the retrieve if you use a loop knot

Luke, why do you now like the Ande mono for your leader instead of florocarbon? A while back you tested Berkeley against Seaguar Floro and seemed to be pretty high on the Berkeley.

Great video!!! Can you test on 16lb fluorocarbon please? Thanks

You should purchase a wood working clamp to hold the tester in place
I think I would help you do your tests easer

How many turns before Luke finally breaks down and gets a haircut?

Great video on knot-tying, except you didn't show how to tie the knot...
