I built a trap base in rust…

The only aim in Rust is to survive. To do this you will need to overcome struggles such as hunger, thirst and cold. Build a fire. Build a shelter. Kill animals for meat. Protect yourself from other players, and kill them for meat. Create alliances with other players and form a town. Do whatever it takes to survive.

A trap base is the kind of thing that someone falls for once, then they call it out in chat and make it their lives' mission to just destroy your trap

A Spoonkid + Stimpee trap base video would go so hard

It's day 4 in Spoonkid's trap base (his basement). I've been receiving daily rations of MREs, with a hamster drip spout of the finest Dr. Pibb that money can buy. The only other item in my enclosure is a 2009 dell laptop that i am playing UKN on (trackpad only). Im playing windowed 240x160 and averaging 11 fps.

Life is good.

I put in a lot of hours trying out different trap base designs and one thing you really need to understand is that it will piss off people. They will return to mess with you or your trap. At that stage in wipe that design is fine. Also be aware that a lot of players are well aware of how these trap bases work. So the trick is high traffic area. But not make it too sus. When you make it obvious that its a trap you will filter out most people. The loot you receive will reflect the intelligence of the player. However, when you finally find a nice design in a good area on a busy day. It can get hilarious. Which is actually the point. The loot I always consider passive income. The players who sit around their trap base waiting are losing out. But that also requires the design to eventually be a set and forget method. Electrical with memory cell type designs seem the be the best. The door closing behind them is always gold.

There are 3 things Rust players are attracted to, Booms, Gunshots and Easy Loot like open doors or sight of boxes. You should never rely on players to notice something that isn't sound based or visually appealing (like fake decayed base), those players are few & far between

I like to trap a lot, here are a few tips. Feel free to ask for more:

1) It needs to be easily seen

Position your trap in an active area, with the entrance to your trap pointing towards where the most activity occurs. Bandit Camp and Outpost tend to be the best spots, but roads and other monuments are also good.

2) It needs to be inviting

Open doors, furnaces, gaps in the structures, explosions, and gunshots are very inviting to rust players. There needs to be something that makes them want to come into your trap, and not all things are equally as inviting. A classic move is fighting and dying with your door open, so the enemy thinks they are going deep. Sometimes just a sign saying 'free tools and food' will bring some people in.

3) It can't be too obvious

If you're going with a YouTube tutorial trap base, you'll usually want to build more onto it to disguise it. Building traps into the entrance of your main base can also be both handy and hidden. The drop-down shotgun trap used in the video is one of the most obvious traps around, so not ideal there

4) Preferably reliable

Not all traps work 100% of the time. The one used in this video is very reliable, but very obvious. Some traps require direct player interaction to activate (closing doors / building walls, ) so things can go wrong more easily. These traps tend to be less obvious though, so its all about striking a balance there

5) Make it easy for the enemy to enter the trap

If the trap requires too much work from the enemy, you'll limit your potential pool of victims. Unless they're walking right in, you're going to need something more inviting like the sound of an eco-raid or gunshots. A base that looks freshly raided is a solid option, but as an example building an autoturret in a forest can be one of the easiest traps to fall into.

6) A trap usually only works once

Most people won't fall for the same trap twice. You might get them again when they come back naked with a DB to inspect the trap. Having multiple designs spread out around the map is the way to go if you want to rely on trapping for a living

I love that you feel the need to defend the video. The whole intro is trying to tell everyone what you’re doing and that it’s not the only thing you’re doing. Let’s be real here, you fill a role that provides your style of play that we all enjoy watching. Bare minimum set a goal or play in a group. I personally love seeing you just do you and seeing the thought process as it plays out lol.

100% my favorite type of Spoonkid content. Funny, good premise, lots of interaction with randoms... and it makes it feel like you're taking the viewer on the adventure with you. 10/10

Spoon when you do the blueprint strat you either gotta panic and move around and fight them or go into the base. Then they will either see the door with a twig frame OR leave the door open when you die.

I love the switch up from the normal rust play style to building a trap base, I gotta say that was actually unexpected lol Honestly Spoon, I would love to see you "learn the ropes" so to speak from some of the youtubers in the community who do trap bases for a living. I think that would make for a bangin video :D Keep up the amazing work bro

My only recommendation as a avid trap baser. Build someone near a monument entrance that will have foot traffic. (This is how I trick geared players).

You built to close to outpost, lots of people watch trap vids, so anything funky near there outpost is always gonna feel sus. Then you built in a very quiet location, I'd recommend somewhere in between!
