I remember when they first built it!!, closing ready, I knew it was gonna last long, whole foods, too expensive, they probably got tired of theft. In this interview they really didn't say why they were closing!!

That Alderman, is so clueless !!!
Englewood hasn't risen...EVER.

They gave them $11 MILLION, and STILL the community forced it, like all of the other stores, to leave due to the people in the area, and lack of customers.
If you open a business and keep losing money right from the get-go, why would you stay there ???

I always knew this store wouldn't last long without gentrification of surrounding areas. Although items discounted, still can't beat Aldi's and FOOD4LESS.

You can't help the Community until the Community decides to help themselves.

That store was a write off from the start it never made a profit. It was a publicity stunt to say they were doing something for the neighbor hood. Sure the community benifited but they did it for the wrong reason. We still need a lower priced quality grocery store here but unfortunatly the residents that have money will not shop in it they will go to evergreen park or oak lawn to shop where they feel safe. that is just the way it is. albertsons is doing the same thing.

Can't blame them.. about 75% of southside is a shithole in which the culture is gangbanging and shooting up drugs it is barely considered a community...I think the only way to progress the area is aggressively gentrifiy the area and close down 70% of the projects

63nd in Halsted is still the hood my grandmother old stumping ground. I’m surprised it lasted 6yrs in this area, the prices had to be way below the high prices ‘Whole-food’ suburban prices. I live in Arizona and never shop at this store the prices are way to high.

When the shoplifting tallied up to $11, 000, 000, they called it quits.

Businesses exist to make profit. This is actually a great opportunity for the local community to band together and open a mom and pop grocery that serves the residents needs and makes a profit for them as well.

Ashy Chicongoans need to act right—then people would actually want to work/live near you. Hahahahahahaha

Why in the heck would you put that there? Aldi would've made more sense. Even Trader Joe's would've made more sense.

Gun violence has ran them out of town! Why would any business want to stay open especially Englewood, most sales on top of half their staff has passed away over last couple years being shot while at work but can’t sustain off SNAP alone cuz not everywhere accepts it.

Whole foods is overrated anyway. Aldi's is selling more healthier food and Trader Joe's is slowly taking over with better pricing.

Whole Foods says this stores performance is why its closing. People with common sense know they don't have to pay ridiculously high prices so they go elsewhere. If Whole Foods really cared about people they would stop charging ridiculous prices. Jewel and Marianos charges lower prices but still stay open.
