About the concert

For several years now, Gustavo Dudamel and the young musicians from the Venezuelan youth
orchestra "Simón Bolívar" have been causing a furor on the international music scene. More than
anything else, it is they who have earned the Venezuelan orchestra system respect around the
world: 30 years ago, the conductor, composer and economist José Antonio Abreu had the vision
of combining social work and classical music. Abreu's goal was to tear down elitist structures in
music education and make music a fundamental right of all the country's children.

Great work! You don't get that kind of enthusiasm with older musicians. Youth Orchestras are highly under-rated. Most of us can't chose who we work for, and although I've never appreciated Dudamel or the recent governments of Venezuela, this performance seems like a good fit; it also helps the young musicians.

Es fascinante el talento que tiene este grupo, lo que los hace tan grandes es el hecho de que no solo tienen talento sino que nadie más en el mundo tiene el orgullo como lo tienen los venezolanos sin importar en qué piensan, se unen para crear momentos especiales a través de la música. I remember well the feeling that "El Sistema" had and how everyone turned a blind eye to the outcome of the Venezuelan socialist system. Today nobody wants to know about it. At least Dudamel is very rich and happy.
