They believed in the pure-blood mania so much that in the approx 30 years between the start of the first war and the end of the second they went from a large and extremely powerful family to only two girls and their respective son and grandson still alive.

This is unbelievable. Another masterpiece for the Black family. They're so fascinating and the fact they don't get more attention beyond the Marauders era fandom is beyond me. Not many people can imagine growing up this rich, influential, and yet this trapped all at once... but it's the stories of how so many of them acted in that environment that's just stunning and deserving of exploration. Alphard, Sirius, Andromeda and, later, Regulus - the four betrayers. Cedrella too. Bellatrix on the whole opposite spectrum. How it only seems that Narcissa really lived up to expectation. How must Druella/Cygnus and Walburga/Orion have been as parents? How suffocating this family must have been for GENERATIONS to have people fall off the family tree in almost every one...
