The name of this martial art is 'Han moo do'. There was a mistake. Sorry.

This does a good job at showing why spearmen were so important on the battlefield for so long. #1 have a good line of bowmen, #2 have a good line of spearmen. Bows and Spears were the dominant military weapon for centuries.

As an Escrimador I feel for the Arnis guy. He's really good but against a skilled opponent with a lot more reach, you really see the limitations of what you can accomplish with short weapons. Awesome content, you got yourself a new subscriber.

You would deserve more viewers. Everything is professional: the recordings, the editing, the fights and fighters. An admirer from Hungary.

I'm a Filipino who practices FMA, I've fought with a spear user once or twice but not with that kind of skills.. awesome spear handling skills!! 🔥🔥🔥

It’s always so interesting seeing someone who actually knows how to use a spear fight with one.

I’ve used polearms in HEMA before, but most of us tend to just use it like a longsword that has two pointy ends. Haha

I have practiced both stick(Arnis) and staff (Kung Fu). The range difference is so huge that I was quite surprised to see the Arnis fighter connect so many times. Imagine knives vs. sword. Respect to both.

It's so interesting. In the style of arnis I study, the teacher stresses the importance of catching blocks close to the body to minimize damage and lower the chances of your opponent making a successful grab while augmenting your own. However in this case, even though both players are clearly very skilled, there were a few moments where the arnis player blocked close to the body, but there was just too much force behind the spear as it swung down. You really can't use your techniques as if you were against another arnis player if it's not arnis. This is why inter-weapon/style matches like these are so cool! You learn so much!

A lot of people don't realize but the spear was actually the primary weapon of samurai. The sword was used for close range combat, but also had more ceremonial and spiritual significance.

The arnisador is good! I felt for him, bridging a gap like that borders on the impossible. He’s quick and his defense is pretty sound, though. Obviously the spear fighter was skilled and I enjoyed seeing him work, but I know very little about spear fighting so I can’t comment.

This is great, such an amazing spear user. The arnis guy did great too but its just so hard to bridge that range gap especially with a skilled spear user. Iv only done a bit of arnis but now i wish i could learn some spear.

Now THAT is how you use a spear! He clearly showed why the spear has the reputation of being “the king of weapons”. When you know how to use a spear, there’s few weapons that can match it. Seriously impressive skills here! 😎

That spear user is so skilled... I've never seen anything like it!

The weapons matchup was unfair to begin with, but putting the spear in the hands of a master was overkill lol
Great fight. Lots of skill on both sides. :)

The effectiveness of Spear, if I was ancient warrior I'd be a spear specialist 😁

Kudos to the Arnis guy for landing the first hit to the head. Imagine if it was a sword, that's already a kill right there

The spearman looks like he's not even trying, but his striking is impeccable. He makes everything look so effortless and his posture is super relaxed. That kind of tactic fighting against someone for the first time is probably super effective at breaking the opponents morale.

I've been binging these weapon vs weapon videos recently, and in almost every video I've watched that features 'spear vs (insert weapon here)', the spear seems to come out on top. I could have guessed intuitively, but I didn't know just how dominant spears can be

Great channel! I've watched a lot of videos of fighting with weapons but always feel it's hard to see when there's a hit and where exactly the hit was. You've totally fixed this problem with the awesome blood animation and the multiple camera angles and replays. Great work!

My experience in HEMA taught me that spears/polearms are one of the most valuable unit in a clash and should be taken care of with timing

This is a good test of range. I like this alot! I've always favored the yari (spear) and rokushaku bo (long pole). I've done mixing weapon randori in Yokohama and Aomori, Japan despite how limited opportunity available. You made me realize how much I miss this and lessons learned. Many thanks for your presentation!
