As a former Arnis practitioner, here are a few tips on how he can improve his technique.

1. He is overextending his blocking stick. It is too far from his head. The number block is for protecting his head.

2. One stick should always be for offense, the other for defense.

3. He is making too many lunges. He gets predictable. He should use more sidesteps. Or run to the side of the opponent's dominant arm. Avoid the center line. It should be like boxing.

4. Do NOT use kicks! Roundhouse kicks expose your back. It also keeps you off balance.

Love both of them the only reason we can see disparency is because of the habit in ruling tournament, arnis always play in and out style and doesnt really have practice defence for long reach weapon, the haidong on the other hand always displays great simultaneous defence and offence style

Love this channel. I can tell all these fighters are very skilled in their respective arts. It's very interesting to see which of the fighters more easily adapt against weapon types and styles they are not used to sparring against.

For him(Arnisador), he could have used scissor blocks to counter those vertical attacks, it's very effective if it was used😐

In Arnis (Kali) you only use the Cane for practice. In actual combat, it is the slender sword is being used by our forefather fighting the Spaniards. Or steel pipes or hardwood. It's similar to the Thai (Muai Thai) sword & training.

This is amazing, the arnis fighter was out matched but there are some "what if" moments like if he made use of feints, properly closed the distance, and proper foot work for angles into his attack maybe we did see a different outcome.

The Haidong fighter was amazing in engaging at a distance and he did use feints and changed his stance. I am no practioner of any the arts displayed here but it does show the skills they both have...

Excellent channel!!!

Cool. This is the first time I’m seeing Haidong which I assume is like Korean kendo? Some of the stuff I see this guy do reminds me of European longsword fighting though! The different stances and all.

Overcoming that kind of reach advantage can be a serious challenge. Maybe if he feinted his entry, to bait the attack? Even then, though, if the haidong fighter recognizes it in time then it’s gonna be difficult to capitalize on the opportunity.

Great video, and a good fight from both guys!

Arnis is for close quarters kendo for open areas. Arnis is for jungle while kendo is for open spaces. Each martial art is effective as intended but never all the time. Also a bolo you can throw is different from a stick. While kendo has range and power. Both great but have limitations.

The guy holding the arnis stick doesnt bring justice. Its like he just studied arnis yesterday. Unable to capitalize on two sticks and close combat edge

Nice fight!

What style of Arnis was the Arnis player using? It's very unorthodox in the sense that the usual technique for an enemy with a longer sword is to close the gap with triangle footwork with sticks simultaneously blocking and hitting? In here, it's more of a point style Arnis where the focus is to get a hit then get out...The kick was a nice touch though, I rarely see FMA do kicks like that..

More fights please :)

Dear @weaponism - @1.29 caption reads "Haidong Makes Back kick a success", please refer back to 1.27 when the escrimador clearly strikes the haidong fighter in the back of the knee before the kick. Had it been a blade, the leg would have been gone. Great match and respect to both combatants. Why isn't the escrimador using angles to his advantage? I noticed the same issue on another channel with an escrimador from Korea.
